Confusion about 1200 calories and calories

I started using MFP to track calories because I felt like overeating all the time.
Although the nutrition facts are not necessarily accurate on MFP, they do help with reducing the amount of food that I eat.
However, I am still quite confused about the 1200 net calorie count.
My question is: is 1200 calories the upper limit or lower limit of the amount of calories per day?
If it's the upper limit, then I will be under eating and will not reach the amount of nutrients required per day.
If it's the lower limit, aren't the excessive calories going to increase my weight? Or I should just eat above 1200 and exercise them out?
Thank you in advance!

Read the sticky threads, theres invaluable info in them
Especially this one: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1069275-links-in-mfp-you-want-to-read-again-and-again0 -
1200 already contains your deficit for weight loss. You do not need to exercise or eat under this goal.
If you exercise, you should eat those calories on top of your calorie goal. Please just be sure that the estimated burn calories are correct, some people choose to eat between 50%-80% of their exercise calories to account for error.0 -

Yes the nutrition is accurate in the entreis without asteriks or without the words homemade or generic...I've checked.
1200 is the lowest...
For example...I can eat 2000 calories a day and not gain weight. I wanted to lose 1lb a week so MFP gave me 1400 calories and I exercise 200 calories away so I eat 1600 calories a day and lose 1lb a week...0 -
No wonder.. I always chose "generic" ... :ohwell:0
