ugh hungry more often now!!!

So I am about 10 lbs or less to my goal. I have stayed at 1550 calorie goal for awhile because it is what has worked perfectly for me. I used TDEE-% for most of my weight loss until it seemed not to work for me anymore. Looking back at things I noticed if I stuck to about 10500 - 10800 calories per week that I always lost...so that is why i stuck with the 1550. Sometimes I alternate with low & high days. I was / am not eating back calorie burn -

Lately I am starving by 8 AM - mind you ALL my life I have never been hungry before 10 AM - and if I eat breakfast for what ever reason i find I am hungry all day and end up eating too much. So skipping breakfast which I have always done worked for me all this time....till now! I just can not wait till 9 or 10!!!! This of course sets me up to end up over my calorie goal!!

The only thing that I have changed is the workouts - I usually eat the same things with some variation here and there. I am a creature of habit - find something I like and works for me..I stick to it!
In January I started Turbo Jam. Started slow and now twice a week I am up to 50 minute cardio, twice a week 40 minute strength, and once a week another 30 - 40 minute cardio (varies). I generally do not work out on weekends. Prior to this I was using Zumba Exhilerate or Hip hop abs which requires far less endurance.

I am wondering if with the higher endurance requirement of Turbo Jam if I should be raising my calorie goal? Or do you think I need to start paying attention to my macros? (I look at them but do not put a whole lot of emphasis on it right now so I do not over complicate things lol)

Any thoughts or advice is much appreciated!!! I am way to close to goal to blow it now!!! :)

Higher endurance workouts are going to require that you eat more because you are burning more calories. Aim for snacks that fit your macros and exercise goals. If you are eating clean and exercising....you are not going to blow it. Trust the process.

As far as eating before 10 AM....have you tried drinking a protein shake?

hmmm you know I have not thought of protein shakes....I have protein powders for when I want a smoothie at night but never thought of trying it in the AM. I will have to try that and see if it helps. :) I think the extra protein would be an added benefit. Thank you!

BTW Congrats on the amazing loss!!!

Hunger is your body's way of telling you to eat. It is very common and expected to be very hungry after endurance exercise. EAT! But eat foods that are high in water content, nutrients and fiber. (I.E. fruits and vegetables)

Maybe the cause of my new obsession with pears, plums and romaine lettuce? LOL I am very nervous about raising my calories...but I am going to give it a try. At least a little so I am not freaking out about going over. I know for sure I am using more of my energy now than I used to for these workouts..just did not expect to feel hungry from it I guess :/

When I was at my peak of weight loss (losing consistently a pound or two a week for set of months), eating right and working out really consistently, I HAD to eat all the time, I was constantly hungry, and ate about ever two hours. I think my metabolism was just running super efficiently at this point. The trick was learning what to eat. I'd always eaten "meals", large portions about three times a day, and sometimes a snack, and while there is nothing wrong with that, it wasnt working for me anymore. So I started taking those foods I'd eat in a meal and breaking them up into small portions throughout the day. I'd have my morning coffee, banana, and egg all at separate times, the sandwich I'd bring for lunch would get cut in half and eaten a couple hours apart, yadda yadda, I wasn't eating anymore, but I was eating all the time, and it worked really well for me (warning: friends teased me all the time that I was never not eating or hungry, people do notice. tee hee)

I am such a creature of habit, I don't like to change my routines. Have you tried chia seeds? You could add them to many things you currently eat, and they keep you feeling full longer. If not, that might be a simple fix :)

The closer you get to goal, the more slowly you lose. That's just how the human body works. With 10 lb. to go, set your goal to .5 lb. per week and be patient. The smaller deficit will also help you transition to maintenance.

    Read this: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1080242-a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-sexypants

I'm less hungry when I use MFP's protein & fiber goals as minimums and ignore fat & carbs. It will take trial & error to find what works for you.

I have not tried Chia - I currently use Flax (controlling blood levels to satisfy the Dr. lol) - can do a mix I guess :) Thank you!

I generally do not pay much attention to the macros however I just looked over the past week and I get really close to the Carb, fat and protein goals if not spot on with some. Not bad for not paying attention to them lol Fiber I get close or go over
I did read that being leaner I need to have a smaller deficit now - not sure where I read it though but it was a great article that made a lot of sense to me. I also realized last night after someone mentioned burning more calories with my new workout. At first I thought..I am not burning more because I burned between 300 and 400 with Zumba too. The difference I realized...I was heavier then so yes I am actually burning more now! :/
I am going to change my calorie goal on here entrusting MFP calculations and see what happens...as long as I lose every week..the amount does not phase me so long as it IS a loss :) That I came to terms with along time ago lol

Thank you everyone for your input - lots of great ideas and advice to run with!!!!

when I started running I started getting HANGRY

I wake up HUNGRY now when before I could wait and eat

I also had to go from low carb to I dont give a fukk how many carbs feed me because low carb was not cutting it with a runners work out. I was also eating 1300-1450 calories a day and bumped it up to 1627 andhave been losing and happy ever since.

You have to adjust your diet according to the changes you make, if your body is telling you that you need more fuel, feed it, just be smart with your food choices!

    Good luck!

Carbs def fill me better than other things - I have to eat carbs at night or I go to bed starving!!!! I always have a bit of protein with it...but has to be a carb snack ;)

Did you check to see what your BMR was? Also, eating back some of your exercise calories is not a bad thing at all, many people eat all of them back and still lose weight. Experiment and see what works for you.

Regarding hunger; I don't see what the problem is. A pound of broccoli is a mere 156 calories and that much food will kill any hunger immediately. Also, broccoli has lots of fiber so you won't even digest most of those calories. Don't like broccoli? Good! Then you won't eat as much. This is about hunger right? If it's NOT about hunger and you merely want people to coddle you and tell you that you should just enough cheese doodles to quell your restless spirit, then you resigned yourself to failure.

Carbs are not "the enemy". Too many, too often or sugar loaded carb treats can of course keep you from dropping but on balance carbs are not going to keep you from losing weight. Low carb diets became popular because you drop excess fluid along with the decreased glycogen stores the first week or so, after that the weight loss is less dramatic. Low carb diets work as well as any other diet that includes a caloric deficit but there's nothing magical about them. A diet that you can "live with" in the long term is ultimately the best diet for you.

I do check my BMR each time after I lose so much - I eat more than my BMR and always have. My BMR is just over 1400 currently. I am not a carb nazi by no means lol..Love my carbs and could never go long term without them. I do not have a sweet tooth but rather a salty one so my palette is easier to please and still stick to a healthy diet. I try to have and keep a nice balance between everything each day. Veggies are loaded on the plate at each meal - just not always my snacks. Broccoli lover here BTW LMAO :)

As far as the problem with hunger...to be honest since I started last April I have never felt hunger. I always stayed within my calorie goal and never stalled. The calorie goals and my meal plans worked perfectly however for some reason now they are not. Waking up hungry is foreign to me but I know that it is telling me I have to fix something.
