I have a humongazoid migraine !!!

No, humongazoid is not a word.. but I knew that eating fewer calories cold turkey would trigger some things but ... damn !! Anyone have any good tips and ideas for dealing with it? Any help is greatly appreciated.. This is about the time of day I would be grabbing a Kit Kat or something..

Craving chocolate can actually be a sign of an oncoming migraine.
Do you have migraine meds?
If not, drink a Gatorade or electrolyte replacement drink. Or something with caffine.
If possible you turn off all sensory items - lights, sound, put on softer clothes and turn off your Scentsy's.
Take 2-3 advil or motrin (whatever the dose is) and wait.
I think if you cool a spoon and place it over your eyes that might help.
Massage your neck/shoulder area as many people get stress migraines and this is a trigger area.
Hope it goes away soon. Migraines are the devil.0 -
short term can of diet soda 2 Advil... as in you need to get through today...
long term read Heal your Headache by David Buckholtz... since I cleaned up the diet other triggers have become clearer ... can't say they are gone but a big improvement... PM me if you have migraine questions...0 -
BC Powder works quick and has a little caffeine in it. I drink green tea in place of my colas so I get a bit of caffeine. The headaches do go away after a bit. Hang in there and feel better!0

You sure it's a migraine? When I get migraines, I can't even see...much less type of a bright computer screen...
Either way, BC powder and pain killers do help, but if it's a full grade migraine it probably won't touch it.0 -
Make sure to stay hydrated? Dehydration can make headaches worse. Depending on the type of headache, sometimes caffeine can make them better, sometimes it makes them a 10-fold worse. Definitely make sure you're getting enough water though.
Check your posture? Sometimes, tension headaches that start in the back or shoulder are mistaken for migraines.

ugh! i can't take those but know people who swear by them. I can't take asprin products since they cause my ears to ring.
also, i realized that the fake sugar in drinks was a trigger for me so be careful with the diet soda.0 -

For me its:
Cold pack on the back of my neck, electrolyte drink, turn the fan on and the lights off. SOMETIMES I can do a podcast, often times not. But it helps me keep from puking if I'm thinking of things other than throwing up. And just try to sleep0 -

You might want to try Meclazine (I think that's the spelling). It's used to treat vertigo, but has shown to work on migraines as well. It's over-the-counter, so shouldn't cost too much.0

Try eating an apple. I don't know how or why it works for me, but my doctor recommended it. Something about the acid or something... Like I said, not sure how or why exactly! I do throw up about 20 minutes after eating it, but the migraine usually passes after I throw up. Also, a cold cloth on the back of the neck. I rub a little dab of peppermint oil on my temples and rub for a few minutes too, I find that really helps.0

As a sufferer of chronic migraines. Here's a few things to try:
If you have a gel-ice pack, or something similar, ie. bag of frozen peas. use that. Put it over the side that hurts.
Turn of lights and anything making any noise if you can.
A lot of people say to lay down, but I find this makes mine a lot worse, I sit up in bed. Excedrin often helps. Caffeinated drinks trigger mine so I wouldn't suggest drinking any caffeine.
If you have your hair up, take it down, having your hair pulled back can worsen migraines.
If it's diet related, I read you had recently cut a lot of calories quite suddenly, eat something. Your sugar levels probably dropped. (Mine do this a lot)
(I personally use Equate Migraine, quite a lot, as well as Imitrex. But I get very severe migraines every couple days along with a base migraine that stays with me constantly and never goes away.)

I don't know what you consider to be a migraine, but when I get a migraine I can't even have the lights on. I couldn't imagine looking a screen.

Last time I got one I threw up 18 times it was the worst day of my life.0 -
One word, feverfew. You need to take it for a month or so, but in my case, it cuts migraines from several days a week ( debilitatingly bad) to almost never, with no side effects.0

I get migraines often, and for me food is usually the main trigger, but sometime smell too.
I went to a migraine specialist a while ago and they told me that migraines are triggered usually by a combination of 3 of your usual triggers. Each trigger might be ok on its own, for example chocolate, or being a bit dehydrated, but put 3 of these triggers together and BAM! you get a migraine.
A small dose of caffeine can help calm a migraine, just having a can of coke (or diet coke) sometimes helps me short term.
You will notice a lot of migraine medications have caffeine in them.
Migraines also cause your stomach to stop working so sometimes you get food cravings trying to get your stomach working again, while sometime nausea is the symptom. For me the cravings are difficult, but knowing what is going on helped me. Taking something like pepto bismol can help rather than going straight to the fridge. If you get nausea taking mint or ginger helps to calm the stomach and reduce nausea.
Drink water, keeping hydrated is important and usually the most common trigger.
To avoid them I am careful to monitor my known triggers, I choose foods carefully and have found the healthier I eat the less they occur. So stick with it!
(I also take naratriptan prescribed by my doctor. It makes me very spaced-out but can stop an attack if taken in time.)

Well hello fellow migraine sufferer! If you've cut chocolate or caffeine out of your diet recently then it may be your body adjusting/detoxing and my recommendation is to not treat a migraine with a trigger food ie chocolate and caffeine. Drink as much water as humanely possible and I swear by ginger supplements. I would take one ginger pill three times a day and it drastically improved my migraines, ginger is a natural anti-inflammatory.
