Is this a realistic goal to obtain? If so what do you suggest I do? I'm 5"2 and weigh 133

I don't believe it's realistic. Why in such a hurry? 2 pounds per week is max and that's pushing it. Take more time, eat less and move more. If you were heavier, maybe so, but you don't look to be that heavy.0

Aim for more like 2 lbs per month.0
-
It really is going to depend on what you eat, how much you eat and if you going to incorporate exercise. 20lbs is quite a lot I am not looking to lose massive amounts either 20-25lbs and I only lost 10lbs over 2 months, but I still eat out, drink alcohol etc... (I also have an active lifestyle), so my advice is start losing and see for yourself what you can and cannot do. Remember you need to find something sustainable, there is no point losing 20lbs in 2 months if after a month you are overweight again.0

Why such a strict time line?? You're only setting yourself up for a fail. Sure it may be achievable if you're on point EVERY SINGLE DAY. But life happens...0

No, I don't think it's realistic at all.
I'm also 5'2 and I'm 162 lbs. I started at just over 211. It's taken me 9 months to lose 50 lbs. At my current weight, with a pretty good deficit going, I'm lucky if I lose 4 lbs a month. At 133 lbs, which is considered the high end of healthy, losing 20 lbs in 2 months is just nowhere near realistic. I suggest you reset your expectations and shoot for a smaller/longer goal.0 -
I started at 88 kilos and am down to 75kg over about 6 months give or take logging. I want to reach my 60kg goal personally by July for AVCON. (Adelaide anime and games convention). Just make sure you are eating and exercise. Don't let yourself eat super low for more than a few days, if it gets any longer than a few you will get dizzy and possibly sick. Those are occasions of forcing yourself to eat. Especially important the lower you weight but a few days will screw with anyone.
Weight loss can be done with only deficit or only exercise... But I think doing both is the best.
Oh and I'm unsure if this is true but I've heard a pound of fat is 3500 calories. When losing weight you may want to keep that in mind.
20 pounds is about 9 kilos... It is possible to do that in 2 months (including every damned week) if you are extremely dedicated but that is still a stretch. You should be able to do it in 3-4months without shocking your system however.0 -
Unrealistic. I doubt you gained 20 pounds in 2 months so don't expect to lose it in that time frame. With that little to lose if you do it the healthy way, you are probably looking at losing 0.5-1 lb per week. Adjust your expectations.0

very unrealistic, and believe me when I say, slow and steady wins the race.0
-
Unless you plan to be very unhealthy and pretty much starve to reach your goal (which you *will* gain all and maybe some more back after you eat normal again) this is a very unrealistic goal.
To be healthy and have a better success rate at keeping it off you should aim to lose no more than 1lb per week and even that is a lofty goal with such a small amount to lose!!0 -
I lost 20 in two months and one week. I follow my calorie guidelines, have eaten out, had my beer. While I have done some walking, my work schedule doesn't allow for consistent exercise, something I would like to fix.0

This is much more realistic.0 -

you have more than 20 to lose...and it was fat and muscle....
realistically with 20lbs to lose 1/2lb a week is sustainable.0 -
Is there some reason you want to weigh 103 in 2 months? Actually, is there some reason why you want to weigh 103? Is that even healthy?0

1. For her height, yes
2. She wants to be 113.0 -

Not even close to realistic
You need to assess the goal because you are already in a healthy range
Start By figuring out your TDEE (how many calories you need to maintain your current weight) and your BMR (basic metabolic rate - what you would burn if you just slept for 24 hours)
there are lots of calculators out there here are 2 - if you are a sedentary (ie desk job) you are likely a TDEE of 1698 or so
You need to drop 1000 calories a day to lose 2 pounds a week so it is completely unrealistic to achieve for you (If you exercise enough to have a TDEE of 2500 it would be realistic but very hard to maintain 800 calories of exercise needs a lot of fuel
1/2-1pound a week should be your target paired with exercise to tone IMO

Thanks. I need to quit trying to subtract when I'm not fully awake. I'm the same height, which is why I was wondering.0 -
Extremely unrealistic. Maybe .5 lb / week would be a better goal for 20 lbs.0

im 5.2 ft and it took me a year to lose 20 lbs!0

I agree with others it's unrealistic. Shoot for 1/2 pound a week. Why the short time frame?0

Im not sure about 20 lbs in 2 months but I have seen ppl lose 15-17 lbs in 2 months. But with that said it takes a very strict regimen clean eating and 6-7 days of exercise to obtain that.0

Do not compare your "success" to her goal. By your ticker you /had/ have over 50lbs to lose (I'm not sure how tall you are). At 5'3" an ideal/ healthy weight for OP would be between 110-125lbs - so technically she has very little to lose. The more someone has to lose the quicker the *initial* weight will come off (water mostly, fat & muscle).
I stick to my original reply - 20lbs in 2 months for someone not far from ideal/healthy weight is very unrealistic and very unhealthy!!0 -
What is it with young people? You have so much time left but yet you're always in a hurry to do everything. Shoot for 4lbs a month and spread it out over 5 months. You'll probably feel better.0
-
No I don't have a time frame or a huge rush I was just wondering if it was a realistic goal becasue I want to fit back in my jeans when I go home from college haha I wear shorts here in hawaii every day but to set thanks everyone for the input I'm not going to starve myself or anything0
-
Not likely, unless you want to struggle to keep it off. I would say shoot for more like 10 pounds in 2 months and then the last ten will probably take a little longer.
Either way, imagine how you will look in two months with eating right and exercising. I bet you will lose more inches than weight and isn't that what it is all about anyway? Good luck.0 -
I'm 5'2 and I agree that aiming for .5lbs a week is probably a solid goal. Especially when trying to retain muscle mass while losing weight. If you're just trying to fit into some old clothes, make sure to track your measurements. Weight isn't always the best of indicators when it comes to progress. I just gained a pound, but I gained some booty (muscle), dropped 2 inches off my under bust, while maintaining my waist and low belly measurements. Oh, if only weight loss were linear...0
-
ive lost 20 pounds in 3 months. Ive worked my *kitten* off and really stuck to the 1200/cal a day. Unless you starved yourself I really don't see that happening. (which you shouldn't do!) Be more realistic and you'll be more likely to shed the weight & keep it off.0
-
When I started at 220, yes that was doable for me. But now at about 140, not so much. Even changed my goal to 1 pound a week. Since I hit about 150 I haven't been able to to lose more then 6/7 pounds a month. When I hit 135 I plan to drop my goal to .5 pound a week until maintenance. Take your time, you will be less likely to crash and burn and gain it back.0
