These are also used for children with Autism and who are on the Autism Spectrum. Many children with Autism also have Sensory Processing Disorder or Sensory Integration Disorder and can only be settled/comforted by being wrapped tightly. Other times when they have fits or episodes, it's very likely they can injure his or herself severely.

That's true they seem very scary but serve a good purpose.

I was actually strapped down in one of these as a child, it was so they could put stitches in my head after being hit with a brick.

My son was strapped into one too, for stitches next to his eye. I think I was more freaked out than he was.

I was as well. I had stitches in my eyelid as a kid.

It is just wrong, but it beats the alternative. Could you picture trying to hold your kid down while they're getting stitches in their head?

I've done that and it sucks! I would have rather they strapped her to the board. When my oldest was two she fell and cut a gash just above her eye that needed stitches. They had me lay on the table with her laying on top of me, face up. I had to wrap my arms and legs around her while my husband and a nurse both held her down and held her head while the doctor sewed. I could have used a sedative by the time he was done!
