    Hi,

I am Connie. I am 58 (still can't believe it!) and have a meniscus tear in my knee. This makes my plan for working out this year rather difficult! In order to not become as big as a boat, I have to eat about 1200 cals a day only! Yikes!

I weigh 180 now and am hoping to lose 30 pounds in a year or two.

I turn 50 in eight months and would like to drop at least 20lbs before than. Look forward to meeting some new MFP friends to help each other stay motivated..

63 next month. You are right! I couldn't do this without my friends on MFP! Log daily, try to exercise daily, be honest with yourself every minute, and plan ahead to avoid pitfalls! It really works!

Connie - I too have a torn meniscus and went through physical therapy for many months (no surgery). I was able to do a lot at the gym - even cardio on the stationary bike. I also worked with my trainer on exercises to strengthen my hips so it would be less likely I would hurt my knee again. I am back running now, with no pain most of the time and have completed 2 half marathons (as well as a 5K, a 10K and a 15K with PRs in each) since the tear. I still baby my knee but that seems to have really paid off. Just take it slowly, find things you can do even with the tear and for sure don't give up!!
