CANT GET ENOUGH CALORIES? !!

Hi everyone

I am really struggling to keep my calories high enough. I am really struggling to keep healthy and high enough. Does anyone else have this problem? I am eating loads iv just swaped loads of food and stopped eating junk.

Yesterday I hit 1200
Today only 800
The day before 700

Find it super hard get over 1000

Does anyone else have this problem or has anyone got any ideas for what I can do. I excersise loads to about an hour 10 cardio a day and I also lift a few weights 2/3 times a week and swim 2 km a week too. So I need fuel just cant seem to eat enough or eat the right calories in food...

Thanks

I assume you are here to lose weight yes? You didn't get overweight eating 700-1200 calories, how is this so hard.

Eat more calorie dense food. Peanut butter, nuts, avocado, cheese.

Eat a breakfast. If you are eating 700 calories and working out for an hour burning 500 calories that's only a net of 200 calories. Your body can't live on that. If you have swapped for "diet" food go back to your regular foods. Eat what you want but just in moderation.

seeing as you've only logged 2 days it's difficult to give you real answers. are you weighing your food or guessing? avocados are great for you, peanut butter, hummus, lentils, beans, chick peas, edamame, nuts, cheese all these will help boost your calories and are good for you.

I had the same problem when i first started calorie counting. (for me, it was because i had adjusted my eating and lifestyle THEN started counting) something that helped me, and made counting easier all together, is finding a balance for what i need each meal. for me, thats around 300-400 for breakfast, 500 for lunch and dinner, and 100 cal snack during the day. give or take a few cals here and there, im always around my goal if i stick to that.

    1. Make sure you are eating the amount you think you are eating. (Weigh and measure everything.)
    2. Eat more food.

Lose the skim milk, drink whole milk instead. Eat whole eggs instead of the whites only. Cheese, nuts.

What others have said. Don't be afraid of healthy fats- peanut butter, olive oil, nuts, beans... dark chocolate as a treat. Yogurt, cheese, etc...

Believe me, you can eat health and take in more than 800-1200 net a day.

Put cheese in your eggs, ranch on your carrots and olive oil on your chicken and pasta. Add a piece of toast somewhere. I don't know why this is a question.

Try having more calorific snacks. You could add houmous or guacamole etc to your veg sticks. Add a bit of healthy oil to your cooking or if your having pasta add some cheese. Nuts make good snacks and are high in calories and good fats.

Dont cut out all your favourite foods. Its great that you want to eat healthy but it doesnt mean you have to cut out all junk completely.

    Hi Sweetie.

First, this is a perfectly reasonable question. Sorry someone earlier expressed that it was not. We are all learning and unlearning and it takes time.

Feel free to lurk at my diary. Some of my choices might not interest you, but you will see butter, whole milk, cheese, meat and fish, lots of veggies, some pasta, cheeseburgers, and chocolate. I make room for chocolate because it makes me happy. Happy matters. :--)

I buy string cheese because it makes a great snack and I shred it to put in omelets. Definitely add that to your grocery list. Greek yogurt has great protein and makes an excellent snack. Sprinkle a bunch of parm on the spaghetti. Have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and a big glass of whole milk. Not a ton of food, but it will work. And your bones will appreciate the calcium.

You need to add more calories for your health's sake. It's important. Let me know if you need more specific ideas.

    I agree..it's not that hard.

you don't have to be so careful with what you eat...you can still eat what you used to just in smaller portions...

I mean are you going to eat like this for the rest of your life or are you going to want ice cream this summer, chips in an evening.

    Pizza for supper...

Eat food, real non fat food.

Hunger is not a good enough indicator of what your body needs.

If you continue down this path you will get weak, lethargic and your hair will start breaking, nails will be crappy...etc.

I speak from exp...my diary on sunday shows 1195 calories and I was full @ 995 but ate chocolate and yogurt to get it up there...it took me 3 days to get back to normal...I almost fainted on monday, was dizzy, lethargic and weak and my workout suffered drastically....

My diary is open as well..I eat 1700 a day typically and you can see it nutrient dense with lots of protien.

Thanks for the sarcasm. I'm sure it's appreciated and helpful.

To the OP, don't be afraid of eating fats. A lot of people try to cut virtually all of the fats out of their diets when they start trying to be healthy because the prescribed wisdom is that fats are bad, but in reality eating some fat is necessary for us to remain healthy. Try adding foods mentioned by others here, like avocados, seeds, nuts, olives, whole egg, small amounts of cheese and dark chocolate, and either cook or make dressings out of olive oil, sesame oil, rapeseed oil, etc.

It's a learning process. I know previously when I've tried to lose weight I've been in the exact situation as the OP...
Cutting out all junk, only eating 'good' foods etc always going for the low fat option and as a result, not eating enough.

The problem is many people have an inaccurate view of what the body needs, and eating healthy means nothing but salad, veggies and a bit of meat.

When starting out, I was like 'noo, I can't have a biscuit, that'll make me fat'.....when what was actually making me fat was a cycle of not eating enough, feeling deprived and then thinking 'f it - I'll start again next week'.

Now, I try and net between 1400 to 1600 a day, exercise regularly (although this is more of a fitness thing rather than weight loss) AND I get to eat pizza occasionally! Weight loss has been steady, and eating like this is sustainable for me.

OP, do not be afraid to add in some 'bad' food, if it fits your calories. And please don't take the snarky comments to heart. Anyone would think some people were born knowing everything.

Don't eat any "diet" low calorie/fat free foods. Eat the real thing.
    Lemonsnowdrop is onto something there...
If all else fails, spoon + peanut butter. Done.
