Fitbit - does it calculate calories burnt while you sleep?

As the title says.
I am thinking about getting a fitbit but really need it to calculate the calories burnt during periods of no excersise. Do they do this? I have a HRM with a chest strap but found when I wore it overnight the HRM stops calculating after a few hours.
My goal is to try to accurately how many calories I burn just doing regular daily activities for 24 hours including sleep, every day.

I wear my fitbit 24/7. It calculates my calorie burn no matter what I'm doing. If I sit on the couch all day, the cals burned is significantly less than a day where I did a lot more activity. I've tested it against my HRM for certain exercise and it is quite accurate against it.0

My Fitbit One does calculate the calories I burnt while sleeping whether I wear it at night or not. I have had it for about a month now and LOVE it!0

my kids just bought me one for my birthday. Love it. The food tracker is not as good as MFP of course. Did I see somewhere that you can now sync your fitbit with MFP??? that would be great!0

Thanks everyone, it sounds as though it will do what I want it to. I will still use my HRM to track my excersise calories and the fitbit to track general calorie burn over the day.
Do you guys find your calories burnt are different each day - is it that accurate? I guess my problem is that I don't trust a random website algorithm to accurately tell me how many calories I burn every day and I would rather know for sure how much I am burning so I can adjust my intake accordingly.0 -
I'd say my fitbit calculations are pretty accurate. I eat about the same number of calories as fitbit says I burn and I've stayed at my goal weight for 17 months.0

Hmm I'm thinking of getting one as well. Is it waterproof?0

You can shower with the Flex (wrist) version.0

Nice, thanks0

Went swimming with my new flex today and still works. Shot in the dark. Wondering if anyone would like to trade a large band (black, blue, or red preferably) for my new and unused small black band?0

I have a Fitbit Zip which clips onto your clothes so I take it off at night. When I get up in the morning it will read that I've done zero steps but I've burnt so many calories. I suppose it just calculates my calorie burn based on my age, weight etc. while I'm sleeping.0

Yes, you can sync your Fitbit with MFP. I let Fitbit calculate my calories burned from step-based exercise/activities, but log my food in MFP since there's a much better database here. The two work together to let me know how many calories I've burned and how many calories I have left to eat for the day.0
