Chest tightness when walking outside but not at gym

Hi everybody,
I live in Sierra Vista, AZ, altitude of 5300 ft.
My exercise routine includes walking at fast pace 6 days a week for 35-45 mins; let's say half of that time I do it outside and half on the threadmill or the elyptical machine at the gym.
The question I have is this: why is it that 90% of the time when I walk outside I get tightness in my chest sometimes for the first 20 mins of the walk or the entire time of it, but I never get this problem when I do it at the gym.
Where I live there are strong winds with lots of allergens for 80% of the year, but so far I haven't had any problems with allergies like sneezing, coughing, etc.
Does anybody know if this could be related to respiratory problems as opposed to heart disease.
This started about 10 years ago and back then it scare me enough to go see a cardiologist who performed an angiogram and found my arteries to be clear of any blockage.
I'll be grateful for any insights into this.

Could you possibly still have symptoms of allergies without coughing or sneezing?

I have asthma and chilly air makes my chest so tight that it won't expand when I try to breathe. I imagine that high altitude could have a similar effect, but I have no personal experience. My suggestion would be to see some sort of respiratory specialist.
