My partner and I don't struggle with being overweight, but with being skinny fat with beer guts and low exercise. We have been following the DASH diet (mostly strictly, with some tasty exceptions and a cheat day every week), cut out almost all the beer, and now we are feeling and looking a lot healthier.
Next up, C25K!
We did C25K last year when we were in much better shape, and got up to week 7... then got lazy and quit. It's been a huge regret of mine, since I was loving it.
We did W1D1 yesterday, with a sunny jog around the lake. Everything went fine until the 6th of 8th running intervals... I couldn't finish the 7th and 8th inervals!! I had been keeping my bf's pace of 6mph up to then, which was way too frickin fast for the level of stamina I have now.
I'm going to sloooow down for tomorrow's run and get through all 8. I feel totally lame for pooping out, since that never happened when I did C25K last year. I love and hate how exercise can show you just how bad you have been to your body.
Anyone else starting C25K is welcome to commiserate with me I'm really excited about eating healthy and running again!

I did the program a few years back, after decding that trying to keep up with my husband was ridiculous. We would go out to a track to run at the same time, for half an hour and I just did my thing with my headphones on, and he shot off ahead of me, and often lapped me on the course.
But I was using my body, not his. So mine does things differently and I had a different level of fitness.
Just slow down, speed will come with time. You may feel silly because you're 'running' is slower than your usual fast walk (I did!) but pooh to anyone else who want's to judge your efforts.
keep at it. Try again, start fresh. :-)0 -
My husband and I are planning to start this week (we're using the 5K Runner app). We talked about it and have decided that while we'll go to the park together and run/walk at the same time, we aren't going to try to stay together. I don't think it would work. He tends to run too fast. Plus I'm more of a brisk walker than him, so I think I may be able to handle the running parts better than him at first and he may have to spend a few days just walking or repeating the first few days a few times.
I haven't done this before. Heck, I haven't run for over 30 years since middle school. But I'm really excited about starting. I bought running shoes on Saturday. My plan is to run Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday morning. Right now my biggest concern is that they are predicting snow tonight and a high of 32 tomorrow. Kind of intimidating for W1,D1 for a new runner. :-00 -
I completed day 2 yesterday and did 8 intervals just fine It's amazing how quickly your body gets used to it! My advice is to SLOW DOWN if you are getting too tired. I was running as fast as my boyfriend on day 1 (6mph) and completely tired myself out. This time around I went about 5.2mph and made it through (with some huffing and puffing by the end).
First get a handle on keeping your body moving for the right amount of time. Speed comes second0
