Getting a McDonald's salad for dinner

The lowest cal option, teriyaki cashew grilled chicken, with no dressing. I'm under my calorie goal and I eat McDonald's once every 2-3 months, though I feel this has wrecked my diet. Thoughts?

Why would a salad that keeps your under calorie goal wreck your diet?

What makes you feel it has wrecked your diet? Sorry, I am just confused.

If you only eat something once every 2-3 months it is pretty much impossible for it to wreck your progress even if it's a whole layer cake or a deep fried Philly cheesesteak...I really don't think a fast food salad w/o dressing is a problem.

But what trouble are you experiencing?

Oh, I've just heard awful things about the fat content, but that's to be expected.

It's a grilled chicken salad. Just because it's from McDonald's doesn't make it inherently evil. And really it's okay to have high fat/calorie foods form time to time. Unless you end up 3500 calories OVER maintenance you won't gain a pound. Moderation is a good thing. Deprivation is not.

The dressing will have a lot of fat....
Most dressings do, cause they are cream or oil based.

So people don't realize that when they eat their salads

Teriyaki cashew salad? Do I need to change my dinner plans?? bet they don't have that one here though I would have noticed such a salad. My go to was the crispy chicken Caesar but they discontinued it I heard :(

I used to eat those regularly. Along with Subway Salads.
I lost my first 15 pounds that way.

You have nothing to worry about.

the only thing I'd be worried about is the hunger 30mins after. That is a VERY small dinner.

I mean lettuce is lettuce. It doesn't really matter who puts it in the bowl.

I just had a McDonalds chicken, bacon, ranch salad for dinner tonight, and an hour later I'm ravenous with hunger. Big mistake!

  • What I worry about with mcdonalds chicken is the fact that there are easily 40+ ingredients in their chicken on top of just the chicken. why is their anything but chicken, salt, and pepper. its all listed on their website what ingredients are included. youd be much better off eating two quarter pounder patties than their chicken salads, you would more than likely get more full from that, cause so far their hamburger really is just hamburger. lol. FYI I also worked at mcdonalds and I do not prefer their methods of preparing the salads in the morning. not to say mcdonalds as a company has bad procedures but the managers do not allow an employee enough time to focus on making just the salads quickly enough to ensure nothing else gets in the bowls. and the ingredients being put into the bowls could possibly sit out for an hour plus before being put away in the fridge until the following day until ingredients are gone. make your own choices but this is my honest experience and knowledge. TO MANY Unknowns for me.

I count 18, and that's if you count each ingredient in the "seasoning" separately.

haha it's not that big of a deal. Just log it on here and if it fits in your macro's then you are good to go with that treat. That's not even nearly as bad as having a burger there! haha

Where do I find this deep fried Philly cheesesteak?!?!

OP - You're fine. A salad is a salad as long as you don't drown it in high calorie dressing and other ingredients. Enjoy.

Thoughts? Save the guilt and screw the salad. FIfty more calories, sub in the apple slices and juice, and you can have a hamburger kids meal.

You mean bananas have CHEMICALS in them!?

I thought only bad food had chemicals in them, does that mean bananas are bad?

    What's that?

Everything is made up of chemicals?

    What?

    How can that be?

    This world isn't safe!

I like the Mconald's Southwest Salad with grilled chicken; I have one probably every two weeks or so. Why would you think that a salad will destroy your progress?

I get a McDonald's salad for dinner about once per week. On a night when I'm running between work and an activity I need something quick. I get the southwest chicken salad and the light balsamic dressing. It might not be the best tasting salad around, but keeps me within my calorie goals for the day.

Why would you think it is bad?
