Diet help needed please

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum and a relative newcomer to the fitness world. Over the past two years I have lost 80lbs through weightwatchers. Never did exercise and always avoided it! Fast forward to January and after struggling to loose the last 20lbs I joined a gym. Suddenly I realised I love exercise! The problem is I just can't loose anymore weight. I have lost 12 inches since exercising but the scales just won't budge. I think I need to change my diet as weightwatchers really doesn't seem to focus on activity.

Here's my current exercise - Run 5km 4-5 times per week, personal trainer session once per week, cardio machines at gym 2-3 times per week. I use weights three times per week and am starting Bootcamp sessions next week.

My diet consists of following the ww plan but I have eliminated all crap. After reading through the forums I practice clean eating. My 2l Pepsi max a day addiction has been dropped. I don't eat any processed foods and use impact diet whey after my workouts.

I really want to follow a diet plan which tells me what, when and how much to eat. It is so confusing reading all about the different types

Can anyone advise what I should do? I know I'm building muscle but I really would love to drop the last 20lbs. After a lifetime of being morbidly obese it would be fantastic to be a healthy normal weight. I'm currently 173lbs and 5ft 6inch

Do you track the amount of calories you eat? For me to lose, I have to weigh and track my food very precisely on a digital scale.

You can begin by making sure you have a calorie deficiency. This will help you understand better: http://iifym.com/tdee-calculator/

If you don't like that site then use this site which gives you exercise calories to use after you add your exercise to your diary.

Secondly, record all of your activities (good combination of food, exercise, measurements, and water).

    Relax, enjoy, and have fun!

Try low carbing if you havent before. Sometimes people have large drops in weight doing this. Your body just maybe too used to the current plan you are on.

I had to do this too before I could start loosing. D.
  • Thank you both for replying. As I've being doing ww I count points which roughly amounts to 1200 per day. I've recently invested in a fit bit which last week recorded burning approx 1500-2000 cal per day so I'm Deffo having a calorie deficit. I'm wondering if I'm not eating enough if that's possible.

Re carbs I have pretty much cut out carbs from my diet. I try to stay away from bread and too many carbs as they don't agree with me and cause me bloating and gastric problems.

It's so frustrating having come so far and getting so close that everything's stopped working.

roughly amounts to 1200 per day. ....

If you're only doing "rough" calorie counting, then you're not going to know for sure that you're at a deficit. All those "free" foods have calories. And though they're good for you, and I'm not telling you to stop eating them, I'm just telling you they have calories. Calories that can keep you from losing weight if overall you're eating too many calories.

WW is awesome. But sometimes getting precise with your exact calories can help people get closer to their goal.

You are losing inches so stop worrying what the scale says! Just carry on with your food tracking and exercise.

Have you done a body fat calculation? It could give you a better measure. Pounds aren't everything.
  • I've started calorie counting via mfp today. Hopefully this will shed some light as to whether I am eating too many/not enough calories.

I know what you mean mycupyourcake - I know I shouldn't focus on the number on the scales it's just after battling with my weight since being 14 (I'm now 34) the number on the scales is what pushes me to succeed and after loosing 79lbs up to now I'm determined to make it 100!

Re body fat - to be honest I have no idea how to work this out :) would love to know though

I really appreciate you all taking the time to post messages x
