Can anyone help me figure out how many calories you are burning on a recumbent bike or where I could figure that out at. I think from what I have read a stationary bike and a recumbent bike do not burn the same calories and I just can't find the answer.
Thank you, Jennifer

I use the Calorie Burned Calculator when I can't find something. Here's the link http://www.caloriesperhour.com/index_burn.php0

My exer bike is real close to being a recumbent...it prolly is..I bought it used...but anyway, I use the time for stationary bike cals on this site and usually go a little low on my time to make sure I burned at the least what it says and maybe more as a bonus
works for me...get a good sweat going and go at least 20 minutes....its all good

hi there.
i have a recumbent bike,,, you will lose a bit less calories on those then normal bike because less muscles are involved ..
i do about 450 cals/h at level 5 - 80 rpm, im 157 lbs, 5'4''
(calculated with HRM)
theres a lot involved in this calculation, but maybe it will help you figure out the cals..0 -
I have a recumbent bike too, and use an HRM - I'm 5'5" and 150-ish pounds and I'll burn about the same amount of calories using my recumbent bike (middle resistance, averaging 12 mph) as I do walking at a 4mph pace - which, for me- is about 200 calories per half hour.
I have also never seen anything other than "stationary bike" on any website.0 -
Thank you all so much for your help!0

For anyone still trying to figure this out, I found a website that has the actual formula for calculating. Considering it is the Live Strong website, I am thinking this formula is pretty accurate. All you will need to do is convert your weight from lbs to kgs and plug in the numbers, pretty simple.

Here's exactly how to figure out how many calories you've burned on a recumbent exercise bike. It's a very easy process to walk through. Just be sure you know your weight in kg before you go. You'll need that but if you don't, it shows you how to figure that out as well.

Breakdown is this...
Formula
To estimate how many calories you burn while riding a recumbent bike, calculate the duration of your workout, your weight and the amount of energy you expend. This is the formula: (METs x 3.5 x weight in kg) ÷ 200) x duration in minutes. Your weight in kilograms is calculated by dividing your weight in pounds by 2.2. A 150 lb. person weighs 68 kg.
Or you can go to this site and just put in your weight and time....
