The Jillian Michaels cleanse is extremely effective at clearing out waste, it made me realize how much extra money I had in my bank account. What a waste that was, when I could just throw it at a miracle product...
In all seriousness, I have done similar detoxes before and honestly, THEY DO NOT WORK!!! You lose weight from the extreme caloric deficit you are in, quite a bit will come from muscle so when you get down to your goal weight you will be noticeable weaker (no joke, I lost over 100 pounds off my bench press even though I only lost 70 pounds of bodyweight). Your body does not need a "jump start", that is only necessary for people who lack motivation. You can do this, OP! Eat quality food, log your calories accurately by weighing your food, eat enough protein to retain or build muscle mass and do some resistance training! Jillian Michaels is a great person, but coming from someone that had success while doing a detox program, it wasn't due to the program. I drank more water, starting eating vegetables again (hadn't thought about eating veggies in years) and ate thousands of calories less. As a result, I lost quite a bit of weight and felt better but it wasn't due to a "detox", just good old-fashioned diet and exercise.
Don't believe all that hype, do what has proven to be effective for decades: track calories (or macros, if so inclined) and exercise. Much more rewarding because you get ALL the credit, not some silly program that expects you to say it was all their doing and you couldn't do it without them.... that's silly!

And everything that goes in doesn't necessarily come out...so I was looking into colon cleansing but I have heard many negative views of doing a juice detox, and I do not think I could do that anyways. I have been increasing the amount of water I drink, but still feeling lousy. My next thought is a hydro colon cleanse.0 -

Feeling lousy during the day is very unlikely to have anything to do with what is in your colon. I'm not sure how you got to the idea that your issue is a digestive issue nor how you got the idea than enema's were some sort of "fix" for digestive issues. Also not clear on how you know how much stuff is "supposed to be coming out of you". If you mean you are constipated all the time then go see a doctor about it. Your next thought should not be shooting water up your butt.0 -

I'm obviously not talking about a chemical dependency detox. I don't really know if some people are trying to be helpful or trying to tell me I'm dumb?? I have a lot of trouble with my digestive system and regulation. I have been trying to drink more fluids but this has not been helping. I do not need your "You are a nursing student" comments.
If this is true for you, honestly you should go see a doctor (perhaps a naturopath). I used to have problems with digestion and whatnot (it had been going on for 2 years and my MD couldn't figure out what was wrong - even sent me to a specialist and he couldn't figure it out - they tested me for all kinds of things but couldn't find anything). Then, I went to a naturopath who had me tested again, using a different kind of test, and it turns out, I did have something yuk living in my gut that I had likely picked up from swimming in a lake when I went camping 2 years prior. It is unclear why my system couldn't naturally rid itself of this parasite (most people can, but I couldn't for whatever reason - usually that happens in folks who are immuno-compromised, which I am not - I'm just an anomaly, I guess). My naturopath gave me a variety of pills - some pills to help kill the bad stuff in my gut, and a probiotic to replace the good stuff that was inevitably getting flushed out with the bad. It worked for me and after 2 years of problems, I started to feel "normal" again. Oh, and I was able to eat real, normal food, while I was on this treatment.
BUT this is something I worked on with my DOCTOR. Not some "one size fits all" detox that is put out by someone who's primary focus is to make money. Granted, she likely gets results because if she didn't, people would stop buying her stuff... but I don't think that a "cleanse" like this would have fixed my gut issues - it just would have made me "evacuate" everything that was in my gut in terms of substance, but the bad parasite bugs would have remained behind. It wouldn't re-balance the gut bugs so the good outnumber the bad, long term.0 -

Start with a general workup and then get tested as needed. Do you have any other symptoms (constant nausea, heartburn, cramps, etc.)? There are numerous GI disorders as well as other things that can cause problems with regularity. If you've ruled out lifestyle, then medical advice is really the way to go. I went through a LOT of testing before finding out I had a motility disorder, and all the fiber in the world wasn't going to fix it (in fact in my case, it makes it worse). Like QuietBloom said, this isn't about "toxins." I would try to move past the idea of cleansing for now and seek some legitimate help.0 -
Have you tried eating yogurt with probiotics? Also, are you eating 30-50g of fiber a day? Both will help regulate yourself. Also, getting advice from a doctor is a good approach. And do you know if you know if you have any medical conditions?0

I don't agree that all cleanses never work because I actually had one subscribed by my doctor for three days and it helped with the acid reflux I was experiencing at the time. So if you're really concerned, talk to your doctor.

I personally think that you are being quite defensive and perhaps MFP isn't quite for you. Most people on MFP lose weight properly meaning eating less and/or exercising to create a deficit. The reason we do this is because it works.
You don't need to do a 'cleanse' - I have done several and trust me you lose weight then gain it back and your body is worse off.
Everyone here has given you great advice and you are going to be hard pressed to find anyone on here who approves of any kind of cleanse.
I was not asking this specifically for losing weight. I'm focusing more on colon cleansing. I was just wondering if anyone has tried it.

Ok, risking the judgment of my current FL....I actually tried this one. The bottle of pills with "probiotic replenishment". It was recommended by a friend. *let the judgment begin* :blushing:
Anyway, you wanted to hear other's experiences with it. So here's mine: I felt great for the first three days. Everything "regulated", and I had lots of energy. Then it really hit. I couldn't be 5 feet from a bathroom when the urge struck. I seriously considered wearing diapers, but instead I called in sick. I made it through 5 of the 14 days. I missed 3 days of work while waiting for my bowels to stop trying to turn themselves inside out. It took another 2 weeks before I felt normal again. I lost 5 pounds and gained 4 of them back when my digestive tract returned to normal.
I tried lots of cleanses back before my MFP family told me the hard truth about shortcuts. They're telling it to you now. Many people here have made good suggestions. Eat plenty of fiber and fat. Drink lots of water. Exercise. That will regulate your system. If you suspect gastrointestinal issues, see a doctor before burning the inside of your colon out with these ridiculous cleanses.0 -

water, fiber, probiotics- yogurt, kefir, kombucha will all help regulate your insides. Also boring, and a bit difficult, but I have found very effective, at least w/ my u. colitus is a food combining diet. Some foods will naturally digest better with others. Eating fruit for instance, after having that steak will cause a lot of discomfort and gas. It takes a long time to break the protein down, and if you have fruit just sitting around in your belly, it ferments. Your stomach does not digest everything the same way. Certain stomach acids break one thing down, while enzymes break something else down. However the stomach tends to only be able to do one type of food at a time. I'm telling you it was a lifesaver when nothing else was working for me.0

You're body absorbs toxic waste from numerous things such as the air, the food you eat, environmental allergies, medications, bacteria, fungus, yeast, and all the things that can cause you to feel tired, depressed and drowsy. Some people have great digestive systems that work really well and get get rid of these things, others do not and a detox will usually help with this
You are a nursing student. You should know better than this. Yes, there are toxins that we pick up from everywhere. No, detoxes like JM's do not work. It will not clear out any thing that your liver, kidneys, skin wouldn't clear out by themselves. If you were talking about a detox from opiates, or going on dialysis, then that's a different matter...

I was seeing similar feedback on a lot of the reviews and I was thinking that might be a good thing, in my case. But that sounds pretty terrible and not a helpful boost at all as far as a colon cleanse. Geez. Thanks for sharing. That was definitely helpful.0 -
And just so you know, bodybuilders are mostly experts on building muscle mass and sculpting your body, not riding toxic waste.
Okay I'm saying this not to mock or insult but to make this perfectly clear.
Needing to clear your body of "toxins" is just something infomercials say to sell you magic beans. Your body is perfectly capable of filtering out "toxins" unless you have severely damaged your liver due to decades of alcohol abuse. Even in that case giving yourself an enema isn't going to do anything. Its a bunch of B.S.
Oh and before you go on to much about how bacteria are a source of toxins do understand that without the bacteria living communally in our gut right now we would all die. If you want to improve your digestive health take a probiotic. What is a probiotic you might ask. Why its bacteria.

I don't see anything judgmental about the post in the thread. Personally, if I was going spend my money on something that has been proven wrong by science a bunch of times, I would hope people would tell me I am wrong. Not supporting a persons decision to do something doesn't make it wrong, judgmental or an attack.
What it did do however, was bring out more information from the OP about her current situation. Which then further allowed many other experiences and courses of action for the OP to take, which in the end will help her more then some dumb marketing scheme from the fitness industry.
