I see a lot of different protein bars. I was planning on getting some this morning but wasn't sure if I had to watch out for certain ones. Special K has protein bars and I love there cereal. So wasn't sure if that was ok to eat in the morning after a workout.

Protine bars tend to have a lot of extra fillers that a protine shake wont.
However I'm slightly addcited to the Go2Go protine bars that are made here in utah. Idk i there anywhere else but those are wicked tasty.0 -

If you can stand the taste, Quest is one of the "best" (it's sweetened with stevia which leaves a bad aftertaste for a small percentage of people, lucky me I'm one of 'em). Special K bars are fine to eat, but not particularly high in protein at all in comparison to many other, better options (IMO). Try Oh Yeah! or Supreme bars if you can find them, both are really good and no stevia so I can actually eat them!0 -
I prefer shakes x:
I put oats and greek yoghurt in mine, and they're very filling.
(Also coconut oil, chia seeds, spinach, skim milk, some fruit.)0 -
I like Kind or Cliff Mojo.0

Atkins chocolate coconut bars are the best!!!0

thanks I will try the quest ones....0

I like Quest bars myself.
Try one of them.
Pop one in the microwave (on some wax paper) for about 13 - 15 seconds, take out and enjoy.0 -

I've never tried Quest bars, but I'm interested in making homemade protein bars.0

Pinterest is your friend for this, seriously. There are dozens after dozens of recipes for home made lara bars, protein bars, protein balls, energy bites, and on and on. You can't find a better place to compile all your options.0 -
I like Quest bars, but they are pricey. I get Pure protein or Six Star at Walmart for much less $$. All three come in at 20g protein and less than 200 calories (for the flavors I buy.)0

Premier Protein's Crisp bars (peanut butter and chocolate mint) are great too and cheap for protein bars, I get them for $1.39 each at Winco. Exact same bar runs over $2 at Walmart!0 -
The Pure Protein and Six Star are less than $1 each, that's why I buy those brands.0

Quest!!!!!0

DancingMoosie - I haven't tried Six Star but have tried Pure Protein, they were alright especially for the price (which is $1.17 at the cheapest outlet for them in my area, Winco again). Will have to try to locate Six Star and give them a try, thanks!0

Pure Protein and Think Thin are both great and affordable options. Walmart just started carrying a line called Life Choice (in the cereal section). 190-210 calories, 20g protein, $3.88 for 5 bars. Can't beat that with a stick. They're pretty decent.0

^^This.
A bit pricey, but SO worth it for nutritional value and taste. Look for specials at GNC and get a Gold Card.0 -
I've tried several different bars and considering the price, amount of protein and calories, Pure Protein is the way to go IMHO. They're $6.27 for a 6 pack (at WalMart) and each bar has 20g of protein and is around 200 cal. I like the chocolate chip and chocolate peanut butter flavors. Fair warning though - if you're not used to protein bars, you'll definitely notice a "protein" aftertaste.
Clif Builders bars are my 2nd favorite. A bit more expensive and higher in calories (also have 20g protein but closer to 300 calories) but they're also more tasty. The chocolate mint ones are soooo good.0 -

I went full-on food nerd and started making my own protein bars. I found a recipe for an "oat and quinoa breakfast bar" on Food52, and substituted 6 scoops of protein powder for the sugar in the recipe (and I don't add chocolate chips). Mine are about 200 calories each (yes, higher than the commercial ones, mostly) and 12 g of protein. They are filling, contain nuts/seeds, dried fruit, quinoa, and oats and don't require baking. You'll need to increase the amount of water to dissolve the protein powder.

Quest are good, and I also like a brand called balance. They make a cookie dough one that tastes great!! I buy both from my local pharmacy!! When they are on sale, I'll pick up a bunch!!0
-
+1 for pure protein. They can also be had in bulk at costco for pretty cheap (less than $1/bar when on sale if i recall correctly). They do contain maltitol though so just don't eat a bunch of them (I'm talking like 4+) in a single day of you'll have "the runs" (and I'm not talking the activity you log on MFP  )0

I'm a Quest girl. Most protein bars have tons of sugar and can be pretty high in carbs. I find Quest the tastiest and with 1 gram of sugar....nicely done.0
-
A lot of people say the Quest bar but I think that bar contains sugar alcohols which I have found stalls weight loss for me anyway0
-
I have a Zone bar almost every day for breakfast. Love the chocolate mint and the fudge graham. Also like their blueberry and strawberry. They have 14g of protein and I pick them up at Target.0

I once researched protein bars to get the best bang (grams protein) for the buck (calories and dollars). I also wanted to avoid high-sugar bars, since nutritionally makes it basically a candy bar. Here's what I came up with, hope it helps. Prices were best I could find per bar on the internet.
BTW, Quest bars are awesome.
