eh not really. Everyone has a different lifestyle and goals. I do feel a bit lazy when I know a lot of my MFP friends are doing Insanity, DDP yoga, spinning class or Zumba several nights a week, running marathons, etc...and I'm over here like "I hiked for 70 minutes last Saturday" or taking a 20 minute bike ride. But it's all good. And I don't look at their calorie burns, I just don't have time for that.0

Sick of the cat gifs too, but now they will be posted since you mentioned them haha. I burn around 200-400 calories a day also, but I'm relatively new to working out, don't compare yourself to others and just do what is best for you!0

I don't measure myself against anyone else. I do compete against myself and constantly try to do better, go harder, lift heavier etc....
Every one is different. Motivation is different, body physiology is different.
All you can do is be the best you that you can be!0 -
looking at your counter, you're nearly at goal. so that kind of burn is what you SHOULD be doing. b/c you need to figure out how to stay active going forward so that the weight doesn't come back. if 200-400 is a comfortable routine for you, something that you like and will stick with? how is that a bad thing?

I had an almost 800 Calorie burn according to my HRM. But one day it said I burned 200 calories in 2 minutes. After that I started halving the burn.
I would say your friends burns may not be accurate unless they are quite large.
My husband burns way more calories than I do during any exercise, but he's bigger....
Love the kangaroo above!0 -
One of your friends here (a non-intimidating one)! Look at your photos or in a mirror, you're doing great so keep on keeping on. There'll always be somebody else doing more or better, there'll also be people doing less or worse. Seek them out and ridicule them.
Just kidding about the ridicule those doing worse than you statement!0 -
Protip: Don't compete with your friends0
-
I wouldn't say intimidated by their "burns" but sometimes it does inspire me to go for 100 or more calories myself. I know everyone has different goals and obligations and motivation. I do what I do for me, not for them so, it is all good.0

The only person you should be competing with is you.0

Keep in mind that the calories burned by people who use the MFP data base for exercise can be greatly inflated. But there's no point comparing yourself to others except to make yourself feel bad or to gloat, neither of which is healthy for you. Keep doing what you're doing, it's obviously working. We all need exercise for fitness, but it's what we consume that has the greatest impact on our weight and overall health.0
-
Why? Who cares? Just do what you do and keep trucking.0
-
Their posted burns may be inaccurate. Or they may be quite a bit heavier than you.
Either way I prefer to support my friends, not worry about comparing myself to them. I'm not them, they're not me.0 -
My theory is right now I have a full-time job, night classes, assignments for night classes, and some kind of social life to maintain with all of that. I do plan on doing some more things once my life is less hectic right now, but while I'm busy I get in my quick morning workout, walk my dog once a day and reach my target steps on my pedometer.0

It's totally possible they're overestimating their burns. And honestly, if they're just online friends and you don't know them in person, and they're making you feel a negative way, axe 'em! They'll get over it, they're probably getting plenty of endorphins with their 1000-calorie burning cardio :P

Intimidated? No. I know what my goals are, and they are different than a lot of my friends' goals. But sometimes I am jealous when I see that someone did a triathlon or marathon or whatever and now they get to eat like 4 days' worth of food.
To be serious for a second though, I will say I am more often than not inspired by the people on my list who work really hard day in and day out and accomplish big things. I admire people who do it on their own terms, who decide "This is what I want" and just go for it, without switching from one program to another every other week because they read something that says this shiny new thing over here is what's popular right now. They don't intimidate me; they encourage me.0 -
I feel the same way at times. But I turn it around and use it at motivation. I also have to tell myself that they didn't get to burning 1,000 calories a day during their first month! I'm active duty military and I'm broken, so if I can knock out a 4 mile walk and a 10 mile bike ride in the same day, I count it as a Win! And hell yeah, I brag to those people, even though they've already lost their 20 - 50 lbs and are rocking amazing bodies.0

My exercise burn sits around 200-250 five times a week. That is what works for me. I know this is sustainable long term. I do get jealous sometimes when my friends have the time to spend 2 hrs working out. But if I had the time, I'm not sure I would even do it then. Oh well. There will always be people doing more then you, but there are plenty of people doing less. If you are happy with what you do, screw everyone else0

Some of my friends only burn 1 calorie no matter how much they workout. I figure I'm light years ahead of them and it evens out with those big burners.0

My heart rate monitor says I burned 100,000,000 calories.... it must be right. Going to plug it into MFP.0
-
Sorry only came for the gifs
But meh... either do more or stop caring... I'm intimidated by a lot of my friends, only makes me work harder and strive for more (weight on the bar not calories burned that is)0 -
^^ Same. I'm loving the koala
But seriously, only compete with yourself. There's no use in comparing yourself with others, make YOU the main focus of your own life.0 -
No, I am not intimated. I am ecstatic for my friends and their personal accomplishments. We are all doing different things and on our own personal schedules for different reasons. It doesn't make sense to me to take factors and compare myself to others by overanalyzing them.0
-
I never burn more than 400 calories, I don't really want to overdo it. You're doing fine!0
-
That's one of the things I love about MFP - having friends that are at all different levels of fitness and that can inspire me to push harder or work for more.
If you found a system that works for you, that's awesome. Know that you are an inspiration to others with that system!
