To weigh or not to weigh

Hello.
Was just wondering how many weigh daily and how many don't? I find myself weighing daily. I tell myself I'm not going to, but I always do. I have for years. Kinda an accountablility thing. Whats your ideas on it?

    It all depends on the person--for some people weighing daily helps them to stay on track, but for others the fluctuations drive them insane.

    I fit in the former group. I like to weigh daily partly because it helps me to stay on track, but also it's interesting to see maybe how different things may effect my weight (ie: gaining after a hard workout, lots of sodium, TOM, etc).

    If you think that it's going to lead to unhealthy patterns, then maybe weighing in everyday isn't best, but if it's not harming you in any way, then it's perfectly fine :)

    I do weigh daily, not because it helps to motivate or keep me on track or anything but because I want to see the daily fluctuations and causes, like the poster above me. And also, if I'm totally being honest, partly because I want to have a graph to show my BFF when she freaks out over a 1 pound overnight gain to help her get a grip.

    It depends on my mood. Some weeks I'll weigh everyday and others Im not that bothered and do it every couple of days. I never get freaked out by an increase in weight though unless it is still up a few days later. Usually within 2 days my weight settles itself back out again.

    I used to weigh daily until the fluctuations started affecting my commitment,
    So now I weigh in once a week (if that) I would rather track my loss with a measuring tape, sometimes the scale shows Im up but my cm's show Ive lost..so no biggie.

    Depends how you are mentally. We all know weight will flucuate big time depending on what is still left in your body.

    Mentally it is tough for me to see it go up, or not move at all, so I try to set myself up to succeed and do it only on Fri or a Sat morning.
    I do my thing during the week and extremely strict the day before a weigh in. If a fri rolls around and I am feeling heavy, I wait until saturday.

    No way I would do every day, but that is up to hte person

    I weigh daily... as distressing as it can be to see ive "gained" 4 lbs in a day, I know it will regulate by the next day, it amazes me how much the body fluctuates.

    I weigh daily and record it in a separate simple app. That way I get a graph which helps me to see and note patterns but I only log on MFP weekly.

    I do. I track it on the app Libra, which gives me a trend so I know that I'm moving in the right direction.

    I weigh daily.
    1.) I like data
    2.) It keeps me accountable and motivated.
    3.) If I weight less frequently I start to forget and before you know it I'm not weighing at all!

    I weigh myself every morning.

    I 'gained' 3 pounds this week but my belt notch went down a slot.

    Did I lose or gain weight? :D

    I have started weighing every week or two. I'm losing more inches than pounds. I don't want it to get me discouraged. Even though I know I'm losing inches seeing the scales not moving gets to me.

    I weigh 3 or 4 times a week. It helps me stay focused when I see the numbers. Sometimes I go weeks without a "real" change and then boom down a couple, and I hover there for a while and then down a couple. I think if I didn't weigh, it would be easier to "fool" myself. I like to fool myself so weighing helps. However, weight is only one data point I use to measure my success.

    I know I am doing things right and need to practice patience. Weighing in once a month is part of that practice.

    I weigh myself once a week. I also check my blood pressure and my sugar. Just in case. I have also started using a measuring tape, since muscle is heavier than fat, and while I'm kinda enjoying the exercise, I dislike the dieting intensely.

    I weigh pretty much every day. I've also done it for years and the only time I wasn't weighing regularly is when I was trying to deny the fact that I was gaining and just didn't want to face it. To me, it's better to keep track of the fluctuations and catch myself when I'm going overboard. Even logging everything, I can sometimes ignore the fact that I'm going over too much and/or getting too much sodium in but the scale always brings me back to reality.

    Not weighing daily is suggested more for those who put too much emotional stress behind it. They don't fully understand the reasons behind fluctuations or have unrealistic expectations so they freak out when they see they're up 1/2 a pound or not losing as fast as they think they should. IMHO, better to see the trends and learn why they happen so you can look at it logically rather than emotionally.

    I weigh weekly. Seeing normal daily fluctuations in weight would drive me absolutely crazy.

    I agree and follow the same. I rather focus on developing good habits in terms of food and exercise. Weight loss is a what I define as a by-product of my lifestyle change

    As everyone else has said, it depends on the person. My anxiety prevents me from weighing in daily and shrugging off the fluctuations. I would highly recommend doing what you feel most comfortable doing. :) If you find that the daily thing is too much, then go weekly! If you find it keeps you on track, keep doing what you're dong! :) Hang in there!
  • I may go months without weighing myself. If my clothes fit comfortably or feel loose, I know I'm okay. Weighing yourself daily can be either make or break your day. Causing depression or lack of motivation if you live for the scale.

    I have so much water weight fluctuation that I started weighing once a week. The bouncing up and down was making me tired, lol.

    I weigh daily. I can handle the ups and the downs, its data. The pinning all my hopes on a weight loss first thing every Monday would discourage me. In fact the only people in my FL currently verbally discouraged by their lack of progress are the weekly weighers. Anything can happen on the days leading up to your appointed weigh-in which can affect the outcome. With daily, it removes that layer of stress for me.

    I used to weigh in daily, because I too was curious to see my weight fluctuations. But even if I know I might be retaining water, if the number moves up, it can be pretty disappointing. Plus, it just seems exhausting to have to do that each and every day. I might weigh in a few times a week, depending on my mood. I try to focus more on my weigh ins following a day of rest, though.
