What are your tips for success and staying on track during this season? There are goodies by the coffiee machine every day, and lunches, potlucks, get togethers with friends, and christmas parties are fully under way. How does one cope? This is my first MPF Christmas and I could sure use some suggestions.

At my work holiday party on Friday afternoon, I had a few tricks to avoid going nuts. I skipped the alcohol all together (got a diet coke to sip on instead), I only had one tiny portion of each thing from the buffet. Like literally one tiny appetizer meatball or one beef skewer. And I let myself have a piece of cake... a SMALL piece of cake. And then as soon as I left the party, I drove myself straight to the gym and worked out for an hour. The end result, I lost a pound this week instead of gaining one.0

I eat what I want I just dont overindulge! That way I dont feel deprived!!!0

Water and a half a protein bar before going to any food events - helps keep the munching down as I feel more full. And I agree, sample things you like. (Sample being the operative word there.)0

If its a luncheon try to load up with veggies, fruits or salads and then just small amounts of the more fattening things.
Make sure you eat a filling breakfast before you leave home so when you are getting coffee the treats next to the pot aren't too tempting!
If the treats have nutritional information READ IT! It is really easy for me to not over do it when I realize how many calories are in those little nuts and/or toffee balls etc sitting next to the coffee pot. That's more difficult with homemade things.
Bake your own healthier treat - bars with less sugar, lots of fruit and fiber and put them next to the more indulgent treats.
I did log the calories for the treats I did have - ie the dark chocolate turtle yesterday! It fit within my calories for the day so I had NO guilt.0 -
I arrive at all gatherings full. This way I'll just sample this and that. Saves the THOUSANDS of calories over the holidays. Your mother was wrong, you SHOULD spoil your appetite.
Keeping full also helps me say 'no' to all the cookies and goodies that are EVERYWHERE this time of year. I'll have some of the goodies on the ACTUAL holidays, but will avoid them for the most part until then.

I fortunately am self employed and work from home so I'm not tempted every day by holiday cookies. However, when faced with holiday parties, or get-togethers, I indulge a little. It's the only way I can get through it. If I deny myself totally I'm going to jump off the wagon like I did last year.
We're making a lifestyle change. Not a deny-us-anything-we-enjoy-so-we-hate-our-lives change.
Plan ahead. Eat super healthy up to the day you know you're going to be faced with company party, etc, and give yourself a break.0 -
