Next year, I plan to take a once in a lifetime vacation.
I always wanted to go on a cruise, but in the past few years, there have numerous issues wifh cruiselines so that option is out.
I don't particularly want to leave the country, but it IS a dream vacation. I always wanted to go to Germany.

If you could take a dream vacation, where would you go and why?

ETA: I am looking at around a $2000 budget for 2 people for air & hotel and a week's time length

Italy for a month. Staying in a private villa and genuinely living the culture. Maybe work a vineyard.

    I'd love to visit Australia.

There are tons of places I would like to go, though!! A few more to name...Sweden, Spain, and the UK.

My late in-laws lived in Germany for years and loved it there. At the end of their lives, it was all they could talk about even though they hadn't been there in over 30 years. So just for that, I would love to see it one day.

Somewhere on a beach with warm, clear water. Where cell phones and iPads are not allowed.

My dream vacation would be a trip to the Land Of the Rising Sun.

Japan is only one plane ride away from where I am. I've been there briefly a long time ago, but I want to go again. Tokyo is a huge city that's one of a kind. It's on the cutting edge with a good mix of futuristic things and traditional. From Tokyo I'd go to the countryside and stay at a ryokan (Japanese style quaint inn), visit Kyoto, ride the bullet train, maybe see the cherry blossoms in bloom.

I would want to DO something that I won't be able to do when I'm 80. Go hiking in South America or white water rafting or something. Not that I don't like relaxing on the beach, but I don't consider that "a vacation of a lifetime." There's nothing special about it, for me.

Dream vacation, somewhere good in a WARM climate that has nature around it and friendly people... has plenty of activities and things to do... (and ideally on a resort)

Of course with you guys, $2000 dollars for 2 people with everything included for a week.. that is a low amount to go overseas.. but you could try Mexico or some all inclusive type places and see if you can get a deal.

    No cell phone service.
    No internet.
    Warm and sandy...beaches.
Swim up bar in the pool.
    Good hand-rolled cigars.
    Good diving/snorkeling.
Tiki hut on the beach with liquor and food if I am too lazy to get cleaned up for the restaurant.

    NO PEACOCKS!

I really enjoyed Martinique - a little bit of France in the French Caribbean Islands.

Spending a few years in the Navy, on three different ships, I've been to most of the places one would desire to go to, so my dream vacation is a week in a hotel room with no kids and room service.

I agree. In the current economic climate, $2k is not a lot of money to go overseas for a dream vacation. Now if you're planning to stay in hostels or backpack, it might be ok. The tickets alone might eat up most of that money.

Italy for a month. Staying in a private villa and genuinely living the culture. Maybe work a vineyard.

Working the vineyard would give you spending money for daily food/drinks. Meeting people would get you around to visit places. $2000, would get you to Italy, but you would have to work. But that is the idea I had. I WANT to live there, not just vacation.

Maldives!! One day I hope to go.

Also would love to go to Greece!

I've been on 2 cruises and LOVED them. You get to see and do so much without huge expense. Love the Caribbean!! We frequent the USVI.... great vacation if you're on a budget!

Strictly based on your budget and assuming that means travel/air and accomodations, I would consider a resort on the Riviera Maya (Mexico). You could get a stay at an all-inclusive and travel to swim with the turtles, see ruins, and swim cenotoes. PM me if you want reccomendations - I go about 3 times per year.

We plan a nice vacation every year, sometimes two a year. Sometimes we cruise. Most times we leave the country. Go to all-inclusives. Or, sometimes, stay in country and just pick places we've never been, but, the one constant that makes these vacations what I consider "Dream Vacations" is that I am with my wife and daughter (s). I enjoy seeing the world through them.
