Lifting for women

I am buying The New Rules of Lifting for Women: Lift Like a Man, Look Like a Goddess today, I have already read the sample portion and I really like what he is saying. I have done some other research on lifting, and I really think that this is the route I want to take, but the problem I have, and what I am hoping people here can help me with, is I do not know what I need to begin. The most I have at home for weights is dumbbells (10 lbs are the heaviest), I do not have a lot of money and I cannot afford a gym membership right now. I do have access to a college that has a gym, but am never sure where to begin when I go there.

Can anyone offer advice on what I need to begin lifting?

buy some resistance bands...they're cheap and versatile.
  • Go on Youtube and look at how to do basic compound exercises using your bodyweight. Once your form is perfect, you can try adding a bit of weight then start increasing it once it is too easy.

Resistance bands (as already mentioned). Also, look on Craig's List for weights. I know people on this forum have gotten some pretty sweet deals there.
