mlh612 - I think it was barbiecat who posted the Baryshnikov quote about only competing against yourself... so no worries - you're still here and doing great! :flowerforyou:
And I'll second (third?) dancing and phoenix's take on breaks. I think they benefit the body *and* the mind by breaking up the constant grind of the routine - but it's important that you *have* a routine. If you have a bad day (or a bad couple of days), you know, sometimes the dragon wins... You just need pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and you get back to the routine as quickly as you can.0 -

mlh, I'm sure you can do it! It's not necessarily easy to change your routine, but like dancing says, I too find it one of the most effective ways to up my steps. Nothing else gets in the way if I do it then, and I don't have to worry if the rest of the day gets hijacked. And it's totally possible to "become" a morning person. Into my university years, the only way I'd see 4am was if I'd stayed up all night. In my twenties, I worked the night shift and a noon to eight pm shift and could by no stretch of the imagination be called a morning person. Now I work a day job, come in to work early, and sometimes get up when the number starts with a 3! (My alarm is set for 4:30am these days, but I almost always wake naturally before then.) This does involve going to bed earlier, since I don't want my sleep to suffer, but I found that after a few weeks of getting everything backed up appropriately, it became second nature.
rebamae, I hope your new pedometer arrives as anticipated. Of course, the important thing is really the stepping whether or not it's logged with a piece of technology or not. (But it's nice to track, lol!)0 -

:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: I worked my way gradually into getting up earlier, by setting my alarm earlier by a few minutes and going to be a few minutes earlier and day by day, little by little, I came to the place where I can get up early enough to walk for two hours before dressing to get to where I need to be in the morning.0 -

Phoenix - not that I'm even attempting to compete with you (after all, that would be an exercise in futility), but i did allow myself a small smile when I saw that I juuuuuust topped your total for the 6th. Of course, that was just an *average* day for you...
So much great advice and support on this thread - thanks all!0 -
