Tofu

I'm looking at picking up some as a source of protein. Is it as bad as people claim? I'm looking at recipes and ways to use it. Is it horrible plain? Anyone have recipe suggestions? What does it taste like?

    I don't know about health benefits or negative aspects... But I personally find tofu to be very filling. It doesn't have much flavor on its own, but its great if you marinate it and grill or fry it. Although its not the healthiest way to do it, it tastes really good when breaded in corn starch and fried in oil.

    If you are looking for easy recipes though, I would try silken tofu. Just use it like scrambled eggs and add some veggies to it and dry fry it. It also works well as a substitute for ground beef in pasta or tacos.

    i dont mind it plain, but i usually add it to stir frys. I do a tofu salad : tofu, spring onions, sesame seed oil, rice wine vinegar, ginger, and garlic -- but heavier on the rice wine vinegar. it's really good.

    i also do fresh spring rolls and usually coat the tofu lightly in sesame seed oil and then add it to the spring rolls with veggies.

    I'm still learning how to cook/marinate it so I can't really say much about how it tastes.

    I have a [probably dumb] question for anyone who's reading this-- is cooked tofu suppose to be soft in the middle?

    I used to light-fry firm tofu and then toss with vegetables, but I found that I prefer tempeh and now use that instead.

    I like to make fake egg scrambles with extra firm tofu crumbled up and cooked with Indian spices, then you add vegetables to roti bread for a delightful breakfast.
