MAPMYWALK APP beginner's question ...

Options
This is really a question from a beginner who basically never really worked out !! ;)

This morning for the first time I was able to get to work a little earlier and since it was our first nice day since I don't remember when (our winter has been pretty damn long !) I decided to walk until I had to come in and punch in for my day ... I only walked 19 minutes and managed to burn 399 calories for 2km ? Since I never really kept track of my walking before I'm wondering ... Could this be accurate ?
I'm only asking because last week I started WALK AT HOME from Leslie Sansone, did 30 minutes twice, sweated wayyyyy more and lost the same amount of calories in those two days ...

Thanks for helping me understand this ! :)
Jo

I would like to mention that for some odd reason MAPMYWALK had my weight at 326 lbs when I'm only 160 lbs... could this be why. I changed it now but how can I know what to enter as calories lost for my mini walk of today. I was walking medium pace.

I've noticed the MapMyWalk App and the others to be a little high on the calorie burn.

I use this website a lot for my calories burned if I don't have my Heart-Rate Monitor on me: http://www.healthstatus.com/calculate/cbc

Also, if you get a HRM, you can go here: http://www.shapesense.com/fitness-exercise/calculators/heart-rate-based-calorie-burn-calculator.aspx

Both seem to be more accurate than the MapyMy--- apps.

    Hope this helps!

I'm sure it was the weight you had on there at 326! You are going to burn way more at that weight than at 160. I love Map My Ride and it actually comes out less calories than my HRM.

Thanks for the information... I downloaded that APP and synced it with MFP...
Will see if it works fine next time I go for a walk :)

I like using MapMyWalk and it does a good job at tracking my exercise.
I agree with the previous post that the initial reading could be off as your starting was was inaccurate.
Keep using it - I think you will enjoy it - also there is the ability to find friends to walk with in the app.

MapMyWalk uses your weight to calculate calories burned. If you have your incorrect weight input into the app, then your calories burned will not be accurate. A person heavier than you will burn more calories doing the same length of walk at the same pace as you do.

Mapmywalk has been pretty accurate for me in tracking my calories burned.

I am just setting up MapMyWalk to connect with MyFitnessPal. I noticed a typo in the one of the pages during the process. I can't imagine that UnderArmour would allow this to be uploaded without editing, so it makes me nervous as to whether the app I am trying to use is legit.
