Whey Protein & other shakes?

Hello!
I've been recently doing INSANITY, and I've read a lot of topics about Whey Protein or Recovery Formula (Though - I'm aware Beachbody has lots of stuff that rips you off) that you should take during the day with INSANITY and others..

I've been told I should get Whey protein or Shakeology to aid with getting rid of weight.

What I want to know is, what are the benefits of these things?
I don't want to do Shakeology because, well, I don't think it's realistic to spend THAT much money on a simple shake.
I'm not asking or something that'll be a 'miracle' thing and shed fat off my body
I'm just asking what are the benefits for Whey protein, or anything like it,
If I'm going to have a better time drinking whey protein shakes (As in, would I feel better after a workout - through-ought the day?)
What are some recommendations you'd suggest to increase energy/recover muscles?

    A protein shake helps you meet your protein macros if you're having a hard time doing so....it's a protein supplement. I usually use it as a mid afternoon snack as the protein can help you feel fuller longer. It doesn't "aid" weight loss.

    Thanks! :). I don't think the person who told me about it didn't know what they were talking about that much with this,since he told me it aids weight loss and boosts the metabolism. I was just making sure, since I thought it was more helpful to gain muscle

    This ^^ Don't bother with Shakeology that is a rip off (along with anything else BB sells besides their videos)..

    You do protein shakes to up your protein, which in turn helps maintain your lean muscle mass while losing weight in a deficit. It does not build muscle..
