I went donating blood on Monday and something happened to me that hadn't happened before - nearly passed out and the nurses had to help me and pay very special attention afterward. I had lost about 15 kg since my last visit and this was probably the fault, so I decided to gain some back.
So my first day is almost over and here's what I've eaten.

If you want to gain, calorie dense foods are really good
nuts, nut butters, grainy breads, pasta, meat, oils, ensure or boost drinks, smoothies, full fat yogurt and milk, cheese, avocado, banana, granola, vector cereal, protein bars
or the less nutritious but delicious
milkshakes, take out (sandwiches, fries, pizza, donuts etc.), ice cream, chocolate, candy, juice, baked goods, chips0 -

Is this legit? granted I recognize perhaps you lost too much too quick but just the sodium intake alone seems detrimental on many levels.....aside from that the lack of any fruits or vegetables except the coconut oil? No offense but this seems like a recipe for problems from a micro and macro perspective.....

I don't think a diet like that will really be sustainable...
Maybe try adding more variety?
I think if you continue you may start to lack some nutrients. Protein is good and all but you also have a lot of fat and salt. Over time if you stay at those levels I'm not sure what the effect would be?0 -
I think the sodium thing is probably overblown, as I'm getting my bacon from a local store that sells clean farm products. That bacon does not taste salty at all. In fact, I add salt to it for taste.
Edit: I alternate my frozen vegetables. Today it was just broccoli, but it's more often a 400g pack of mixed veggies.0 -
How much do you weigh now?
Almost passing out during giving blood is quite common, and does necessarily mean you need to gain weight. It's called a vasovagal episode. It's an autonomic nervous response to certain situations. Tiredness, dehydration, standing too fast, low blood sugar etc in conjunction with the needle could have triggered you.
If it is a frequent occurrence, go see your Doctor. They might do an EKG and/or a stress test. If it is a one off, don't worry about it. I had a few episodes of vasovagal syncope recently, both before and after losing 40 lb. The last one was a fund raising event full of heart surgeons, and they made me promise to go see my Doctor! But she found nothing wrong with me.0 -
73 kilos. I got a comment saying I looked a bit thin after I had the incident while donating. I'm mostly bone and muscle, so I really do look very thin at this weight. Was told afterward to recover more than the normal time before I go donating again. Honestly, it's been on my mind to gain some even before Monday.0

I doubt the fainting is related to the weight loss.
Do you feel healthy now? Is your body fat % dangerously low (like less than 5%)? What exercise do you do? What did you do to lose the 15 kg?
And please: eat more variety than simply 500 g bacon and 14 eggs! To gain weight, you don't need to have such a huge calorie surplus per day. A few hundred over TDEE would suffice.0 -

I do feel healthy now. I would say about 10% or so by the looks of it. I only work out once a week because it simply takes a lot of time for me to recover. The usual routine is sprints on stairs to the 9th floor, one plank and bench pressing. The latter was not working out for me, so now I'm starting on negative pull-ups, which I've done only once so far. I lost 15 kilos on a ketogenic diet. Most was during the first 3 months, then gradually for several where I cheated. I don't really want to abandon it, as I think it works really well for me, but all the while I'd be losing too much weight.0

So ketogenic diet and taking you a long time to recover? Too tired to work out and passing out giving blood? Sounds to me like you need to replenish your glycogen stores. Eat some carbs! I personally don't think this diet really is working for you. Yes, you lost the weight, but so what if you can't actually do anything? Add some carbs, eat at maintenance for a while, and see if you get some energy back. Then reconsider if you need to gain weight.
ETA - you are a 21 year old male. You should have tons of energy! Are there any other underlying medical conditions you haven't mentioned?0 -
So, If said posts are trolling,,,,, I see no motive...... I find the consumption level odd and I find the OP responses to the genuine concerns odd as well..... Strangely curious to see where this goes..... I understand bulking may not be a bad idea at times...... I see the possibility of being "Too thin," and I recognize this is a good place to seek guidance for micro and macro advice from those who may or may not be able to relate....... BUT! (yeah I yelled a bit) why? I think I if I was too fabricate for trolling purposes, it would be a lot more outlandish purely for effect..... hmmmmm wondering.....0

I've done that for a few weeks here and there (cheat weeks). My slow recovery is the same, regardless. I think it's just something specific to me and I've come to accept it a long, long time ago.
Edit: I do have plenty of energy, much more than before. Muscles just feel sore for a long time after working out. No conditions that I am aware of.
Also, if I have the appetite, why not eat more than just a few hundred above 2000?0 -
Second day is pretty much finished! I ate twice the amount of veggies I normally would.

I like eggs and the veggies always taste good. Butter is just there for the extra calories and higher vitamin absorption.
The bacon I eat doesn't taste as good as spiced meat I could buy at the store. I think we're a little spoiled by the flavours available to us, so normal food feels bland and uninteresting.0
