Anyone deliberately stopped and restarted their diet?

I'm on holliday (pretty much) and the next weeks include easter and my birthday and going to see my family (who live a while away so I'm always going to meals), I have between 7lb and 10lb to lose in about 14 months. I'm 5'7 and 136lb (uk size 8-10)
I know if stop for a bit it won't cause me to give up as that's just not an option. So do you think I should stop for a few weeks to a month or just power through?

Just a note, when I say stop I do mean maintenance calories (no more than 2100 but I'll probably go to 1900 anyway)

Do what you think will bring you the most net happiness.

There is no direct harm in eating at maintenance for a period of time, indeed doing so may help you in future.

Don't mean to come across as rude but, im 5 7" and at our height 126 would put you at 9stone which is gettings towards underweight for out height. If you have places on your body that still have some fat on you may want to have a look at body recomposistion.

But to answer you origonal point, you can stop start your diet will have not detrimental affect on your loss, some people do it to re focus there minds, personally i don't take set time off dieting, but have eaten at maintenace on birthday/ nights out etc.

Thanks good to know :) no you're not being rude haha, actually I agree with you (one reason I find it hard to stick to a a diet) but I work with horses and want to go into racing, so its important to keep at a low weight. But I might not need to go that low (hopefully) it depends I just have to be under 9 stone 9lb with my riding equipment :)

Every few weeks I take a one week break from my diet and just eat at maintenance. I never gain weight during that week aside from extra water weight from the sodium and glycogen stores. When I go back on my diet, that water weight is gone in 2 days. Those weeks of zero weight loss are more beneficial to me than the couple of lbs that I would have lost that week. It keeps me from binging and ruining everything. It's a lot easier to go from maintenance back to dieting than from binging back to dieting.

I am intending to take a break from counting when I get to that point in my weight loss journey where I am tired of counting and so bored with the whole thing that I give up. This has been my pattern for years, lose 30 lbs, hit a plateau, get sick of counting calories or points, and revert to bad habits so I regain. Blah! This time I want to keep eating right but take a break from actual weighing and counting if I feel that old sense of frustration coming back.

Oh definitely enjoy your holiday and don't worry about the food too much!
When I celebrated my birthday I ate at least 2500 calories per day for 3 days straight, and the week after I dropped 3 lbs (which is a lot since I'm not overweight) ! Sometimes going a little over can break a tiny plateau, and as long as you're getting right back on track after it's done, there's no need to feel guilty.

The real problem with birthdays is the cake that hangs around for days! I plan to ask for individual fruit tarts for my upcoming birthday. The kind made of custard with whole glazed fruits on top.

I know! Its so frustrating, I've lost 1lb in 5 weeks. I just keep 'saying don't rush you've got ages' but its so annoying, I'm so sick of it now, and with it being so close haha
