Keto Friends

Hi everyone. I'm new to the forums, but not new to myfitnesspal. I'm looking to meet others who are following a ketogenic (very low carb/adequate protein/high fat) weightloss plan to share experiences and advice. I'm not really interested in getting into debates about whether keto is a valid/healthy/productive way to approach weight loss. We all have our opinions and I have already found from personal experience that this is the way for me :)

I started Keto 5 days ago and am interested to hear from others how they are doing weeks/months out. My experience so far has been a good one. At first I expected to get the 'low carb flu' but so far all I have is tons of energy and no headaches. I've done low carb in the past where the advice was to use lean cuts of meat and lean protein, but I didn't really ever feel satiated and always felt run down.

Anyone else want to share their keto experience.

In case anyone is wondering my stats and daily target macro ratios: 5'7" - 213.5 lbs - around 1600-1800 calories depending on the day. 5% carb, 20% protein, 75% fat. I've seen folks do 5%/15%/80% as well, but I haven't managed to get that much fat in my diet yet. I try to put butter on everything (hard boiled eggs etc) but I just get satiated so quickly.

Hi! I'm in the same boat as you, not new to MFP but new to keto. You can feel free to add me as a friend if you'd like. :)

I'm one week in now, and I feel great. I heard all these horror stories of the "keto flu" and killer carb cravers, but to be honest, that hasn't been an issue for me. I feel great, and the foods keep me so full I don't even really want to snack between meals. I do drink plenty of water all day long though. I've also lost quite a few pounds this first week, and although everyone says it's "water weight" it's still nice to see that lower number on the scale. Also I was able to wear a pair of jeans yesterday that had been too tight a few weeks ago!

Anyway, I might suggest you check out some of the groups on here as well. I'm in this group for keto:

It's a good resource if you want info specifically related to this plan, or you want to find more friends to add who are on the keto diet. I'm sure there are other groups as well, but I like that the groups only focus on one topic, which I find easier than scrolling through the general forums. (Even though it's still fun to check out the main forums as well)

    Hope that helps. :)

Hey, I've been doing eco-keto for three weeks now. Had a bit of a slip yesterday but I'm staying strong until next Friday! Please add me!

I second the suggestion to hit up the keto groups. Do that.

    Come join the keto groups.

Here are the 4 I am in:
    http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/1143-keto
    http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/1494-reddit-keto
    http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/7705-low-carb-high-fat-lifestyle
    http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/394-low-carber-daily-forum-the-group

As for people who have been on it for months, I am at 178 days myself. No massively dramatic results (35 lbs down-- ~1.4 lb/week). But, I'm in no rush and I am really happy with how it works for me. Anyway, come to the groups. The people there are supportive and you'll find them on the same page. No one there is going to argue about how you really should still eat carbs.
