2 months at gym can't get rid of belly

I'm 48 female, had a hysterectomy about 6 years ago. I have always weighed in around 10.5 stones (68kg). I'm trying to lose weight and have been going to the gym 3 times per week. Usually do 20mins running 8k ph and 20 mins moderate rowing and 20 mins of machines, i.e.leg curls, low row, leg press etc. I haven't lost any weight but see a difference in my upper body (no bingo wings) but my stomach seems to be getting bigger. I have a really sweet tooth and really trying to cut back, infact today will be the first day that I haven't had any chocolate (I've had 2 ginger snaps 90 cals). With my exercise today I have a 400 deficit so I'm wondering whats going wrong. I told the personal trainer at the gym I wanted to get rid of belly and upper arms so the exercises she gave me were suppose to target these areas. Any help much appreciated.

Hi, I'm about your age, so I can relate...

While all the exercises will help tone your muscles, and help you burn more calories, the main way to lose the belly fat is to have a caloric deficit. Basically you have to burn more calories than you consume. So log your calories , ALL of them, every bite, every bit of cream/milk in coffee etc. so you KNOW you are burning more than you consume. That way you will burn fat. But your body doesn't spot reduce, so sometimes stubborn belly fat will be the last to go...you just have to keep at it! :D

Good luck and watch your calories and keep up the great work!

It is 95 % diet, you have to eat clean healthy foods, your body reflects what you put into it. Kinda a no-brainer. I am 50 and I do 300 minutes of hard cardio a week , that means 1 hour Spin classes or 30-45 minutes on the Stairmaster, different days ...Plus I eat a high protein diet, my diary is public you can see what I do if it helps you out. Goodluck
