Here I finally am.

Hello all!
After years of merely clicking on mfp google-result posts to seek advice on various issues, I have finally committed to joining this wonderful community. I have no idea what to do, and I am afraid of starting this journey, but here I am.

I am currently around 250 lbs; I was 285 at my heaviest and miraculously lost 30 pounds during my freshman year in college (attributed that to amazing, healthier delicious university food and walking to class). I didn't notice though, and only when I came home did my parents make note of it. Here I am, end of sophomore year, and ready to actually be proactive in this weight loss.

So, any suggestions on how to start? More importantly, how to stick to it? As a female with a crazy college schedule and moving off campus next year (which may actually be a detriment because I won't have readily prepared healthy meals, but I definitely know my way around the kitchen), I feel like I don't have time for this journey. But I need it.

I look forward to delving more into the community. Thanks for taking the time to read another story :)

Welcome! Start by reading this post: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1080242-a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-sexypants

Log everything you eat accurately & honestly. Once you're no longer eating in the dining hall, weigh your food. Logging works.

I agree. And keep walking as much as you can. Good luck to you!

Logging is crucial...at least for me. If I know I'm under on y calories, I won't eat something I otherwise might. If I'm in danger of going over, I know to exercise so I can eat a decent supper. It doesn't give you self-control, but gives you needed information to guide you in exxerting self control.

When I lived off campus in college, I gave myself a walking/driving rule. If it was within a certain number of blocks, I had to walk. Hopefully, you will live withing walking distance of campus.

Also, as a college student you probably have free access to your school's gym. Make use of it! If you still have PE classes to take or have room for it, take a weight training class.

As a grad student, I struggle with the extra work of eating well and exercising. I'm finally back on track after getting into binge mode as a result of emotional eating during a rough semester. Don't let yourself do what I did. I gained 20 lbs last fall, because I consciously chose to eat emotionally. Huge mistake!

Good luck with school and everything!
