Valentine's Challenge

Hey there fellow MFP'ers!

I started pretty late but in the month of December my goal was to run the distance from Nazareth to Bethlehem by the end of the month. I'm just over half way but I only have about 5 days left! Haha! Quite a ways to go but unfortunately I won't make it...sad. lol!

Anyhow, I wanted to come up with a new challenge, a new distance to run and was wondering if anyone wanted to do this with me! Valentine's day seemed like the next great goal to have this accomplished by, but I wasn't sure what said "goal" should be!ll...

I thought it would be clever to run from London to Paris but it was a tad on the long side: 289 miles! Haha! We have 6 weeks until Valentine's Day but still...lol! But I started thinking about it, and the different places and things I found romantic. I have always wanted to go to NYC and actually its on the top ten most romantic places to visit. I kept thinking and I love the show "The Office." The love story between Jim and Pam is just adorable and I love all the good times snuggled on the couch watching them fall in love!

SO! I am going to run from Scranton, Pennsylvania to New York City! Scranton, for those who don't know is the supposed location of NBC's loveable Office. Its 120 miles and I think that is the perfect amount to run between now and Valentine's day. You can do it however you want: Run, walk, swim...whatever you are doing physically to travel those miles! I just wanted to share my challenge and see if I could get some people to join me on my mission of romance and good health! Maybe I'll re-watch the office along the way!! :o)

Great! that means I'm in.....I think we should check in whenever we complete miles so everyone can see the progress. If not, everyone should at least check in weekly.

120 miles by V-day will be tough for me but it might push me harder than usual and that's good!

This sounds like a good challenge. I'll have to walk my miles though.
  • 120 miles in 6 weeks equals an average of 20 miles per week... great start training for a half marathon... I'm in! :D
  • I'm in! I haven't been running because I had knee surgery, but it has been a while and I have dropped some weight so I have wanted to try and work my way up to running as I hear it's a great way to drop inches. It looks like it will take about 2.8 miles everyday to reach the goal, so I will start off walking and hopefully by the end I will be running the whole 2.8! That would be awesome!! I don't know how realistic it is for me, but we will see. I am excited to take on the challenge. :) Let us know when we should check in. Great idea!
  • So, I was just making out a spreadsheet to keep track of my miles and there is actually 7 weeks until V-day. FYI. :)

I think you are right! We are on here logging calories anyways, so why not check in here whenever we complete miles? Something like the following example:

    Goal: 120 miles

    Mon: 3.5 Miles (Running)
    Tue: 0
    Wed: 5.0 Miles (Elliptical)

    Total for week: 8.5
    Left to go: 111.5

I just got a journal to keep track of my running for Christmas, one of my favorite presents! But its the same idea, keep track of the miles you've run and how you ran them!

And should we do from Scranton to NYC? Or NYC to Scranton? For those familiar with the show, Jim does leave NYC and come flying back to Scranton to ask Pam on their first date... :o)

Also for those who want a ticker for their siggy for when we get started, they are at tickerfactory.com. Create yours under Exercise & Fitness Ticker. If you create a pin or password on the last page of making it, your computer will send you back to that page to update it so you don't have to make a new one every time you add miles! :o)

Totally down! This would have to be one of the first challenges I've joined since joining MFP! >>EXCITED<<

And I think it'll be a good idea to keep track of our miles here!

I'm excited! I start the first of the year with a 4.4mile run! Woo hoo!

Oh ok. :) That makes sense! I will probably still start this week, though, cause I have never taken on anything like this, so I can probably use a headstart! ;)
