1000 calories workout challenge - tomorrow

Alright, who wants to join me in this challenge tomorrow (14.4)? You can use your own HRM or you can just check out estimated calorie burn on the video. The workout consists of:
6 Minute Cardio Warm Up
10 Minute Abs and Obliques Workout
36 Minute HIIT Routine
26 Minute Total Body Strength Training
8 Minute Cool Down & Stretch
I'm exercising since New Year (I exercised before but had a longer break), and now I feel like I can manage to finish this challenge. If you're going to try it out, do it at your own pace, if some exercises are too hard feel free to modify or even skip them. If you feel like you can't finish the whole workout, it's okay, do as much as you can and post over here how much did you manage to do (time and calories burned).

Pretty much what I was thinking. And this would be the reason you see so many "Why am I not losing?" threads. 400 calories worth of overestimation can put a damper on a person's efforts.0 -
I feel like it should be pointed out that HRMs are really only good for steady-state cardio. They are not designed for this sort of workout and you couldn't trust any reading you got.0

I'll probably burn about 250 calories from this. Maybe 300. No way will I burn 1,000 calories.
The warmup, cooldown and ab work won't burn that many calories and they comprise 24 minutes of this workout.0 -
I didn't say you will burn 1000 kcal, nor did I say that you HAVE TO burn 1000 kcal to consider this challenge successful... It's just the name of the challenge, the point is to make it up till the end, not to burn 1000 kcal... Sigh, I wanted to make a friendly atmosphere and motivate some people but I got just the opposite effect... And someone mentioned "why am I not losing" thingy, it's not like you do this every 2nd day, or every 4th day, even once a week, this would be the first one of those exercise for me since the New Year, and I wouldn't do it any time soon, it's just to test the limits.

Shouldn't the name of the challenge reflect what the challenge was about? Maybe if you called it the "Burn some calories workout challenge". Giving a specific number is going to make people think a specific number as evidenced by the responses.
Also, nothing unfriendly was posted in this thread.

I'm sorry that you did not find what you hoped on this thread, but I don't think anyone was trying to be mean. It looks to me like everyone was just trying to clear up any misconceptions that you or others reading this topic might have about this workout. The comments were meant to help.
This is a forum that tends to value accurate information and many people here will correct misinformation where they see it. If that's not appealing to you then you might want to find some groups or a set of friends here on MFP that are more to your liking.0 -
If you go to the actual website that this workout came from, then you can read in the text that the estimated calorie burn for the entire workout is in the range of 600 to 1000 calories depending on age, weight, current fitness level, etc. So, it's not promising that every person will burn 1000 calories doing this workout.0

Dang, people, chill out. It says on the FitnessBlender website that it burns anywhere from 627-1028. It's just called a "1000 calorie routine" because it is possible to burn that many, but not everyone will. As it says on the routine page:
"Calorie expenditure depends on a long list of variables, including bodyweight, muscle mass, effort levels, baseline fitness levels, and more. Not everyone will burn 1000 calories with this workout, but some people will burn even more than we have estimated. It's important to realize that everyone is different when it comes to expenditure - and, that there's more to fitness than just burning off calories. This routine also focuses on strength, flexibility, balance, speed, agility, and cardiovascular endurance (both because of the high intensity intervals and because of how long the routine is). Also keep in mind that heart rate monitors are for monitoring heart rate, and that if there is a calorie burn calculator on it, it is highly likely using a standard, general equation that will not be specific to your personal variables. These are best used for their intended purpose (tracking heart rate) and any figures pertaining to expenditure should be taken with a grain of salt."
Give the OP a break. It's what the routine is called.
I do FitnessBlender routines twice per week and, since I don't use an HRM, I always log my caloric burn as the low number in the range they list. They say 90% of people between 110 lbs and 200 lbs will burn somewhere in that range of calories, based on many different factors. I like to assume I'm burning the low number to be safe.0 -
Geez, no one was even rude to the OP. The OP and title contained misinformation....of course people are going to correct it? What kind of forum would this be if people let the misinformation slide all the time?
You aren't burning 1000 doing that workout, and an HRM won't be accurate for that workout.0 -

The certified trainers are trying to market those videos and will often use high numbers to make the video more appealing to the consumer. If they think it burns more calories than the video sitting next to it, they'll be more likely to try it.
Being cynical is important as it can help in finding as accurate of information as possible.No one corrected her grammar or syntax but confusion over the topic title and intent. Being helpful =/= fat and lazy behind the keyboard.0 -

Yup. I was trying to help you out with all the people saying it wouldn't burn 1000 calories. It may not burn that much for one person in particular, but for another person, it just might. Every person is different and burns differently. With that being said, I've done these 1000 cal workouts on this website, 3 in total. They are challenging workouts, even if you don't reach a 1000 calorie burn, which, for my stats, I probably did not. The challenge was worth it, even if I'm not one of those people that could burn 1000 calories while doing it.0 -

Neither fatness nor laziness was involved in my looking to clarify or correct the claims of this post and referenced video.
And the ones "freaking out" are clearly on one side of this discussion, but not the side some would have you believe.
Personally, I'm used to (and numb to) the charges of being mean, a bully, having my work ethic challenged, and various other insults lobbed my way because I have the audacity to address bogus (or at best, potentially misleading information) on MFP.
And I didn't even raise the potential short- and long-term harm from attempting to burn too many calories in a single session before someone is properly conditioned for it. Think of it as the crash-diet version of exercise. Exercise should be for health, not to accomplish an unsustainable calorie burn. (But what do I know...I'm just a mean internet bully who sits at his keyboard all day, right?)0 -

Excellent point made here about doing things your body is not ready for. I regularly burn well over 1000 every time I ride for a couple of hours, but it has taken a lot hard hard work to get to that point and not suffer from it. If you haven't done any workouts in a while, I would highly recommend staying away from anything that even has the potential to burn that many calories. I went to my first fit camp last year and was able to do all the exercises, but I also could barely walk or sit for the next few days.
I've said I'm exercising for more than 4 months now, I also exercised before but I had a small pause, I know I'm ready and I'll try to do as much as my body can. I believe other people are also aware of that and I highly doubt a beginner will jump right into it...0 -

I saw not one person freaking out.
And you still shouldn't use a HRM to measure this type of burn, whether it's a minor detail or not. We see a lot of people around here who are eating back 100% of their HRM readout regardless of whether or not it's an accurate number. And then they post asking why they aren't losing weight. Whether the OP planned to or not, I prefer to nip this sort of information in the bud before it spreads.
Correcting misinformation is for the benefit of all posters and lurkers on these boards. Arming them with good information helps the long term success of our members.

On what are you basing this ridiculous assumption??? I'll assume that during your almost-three-years on MFP that you haven't spent much time reading the forums...because beginners jumping right into things into which they shouldn't be jumping is more the norm than it is the exception.
(That said, it isn't your obligation to warn them about it either...that's on them...but is nonetheless why I raised the point.)0 -
First post I read on this forum and I'm very disappointed to see that rather than finding people who are supportive of working out and weight loss, all I'm seeing is a whole lot of people who want to be "right".0
