Swimming

Will swimming for 30 minutes per day 3X a week help me lose weight? Plus walking on the threadmill not running (scared for my knees) 2X a week for an hour each day.

Is this a good combination? Or if you have suggestions, please feel free to share.

Thank you!

Any exercise done that gets your heart going will help you lose weight, granted you keep to your deficit and eat your exercise calories back.

Thats how I lost all my weight no running just swimming 3-4x a week for 30-60min a day. But you get what you put into it you have to push yourself to go further and harder and get your heart rate up, if you just swim 1 lap take a 5 min break walk a lap then obviously you wont get nearly the same results. But it also takes time to build up your endurance when i started i couldnt even complete a full lap

it's important with swimming to keep pushing, the more you swim, the more efficient your stroke is likely to get and therefore the less energy you will expend on each lap, so as you speed up you need to push and go further
set yourself some targets both in terms of time in the water, total distance and speed over a shortish set.

I get up to 30 minutes in an 11m pool twice a week - but i've gone from doing 20 lengths in 20 minutes to 104 lengths in 30 minutes, i started counting in alphabets a-b-c...2a-2b-... because i kept loosing count - I also have a target speed for sets of 4-6 lengths that i try to hit and beat every week, you need to aim to be puffing during and at the end of your swim for it to be worthwhile

depending on your swimming level you may find booking a lesson from time to time helpful - to give you a few more ideas for drills and to help snag your technique and identify bad habits

    good luck

I agree. Try using the spa after as well to help your muscles relax :)
