Lost, need help getting started.

My issue with not losing weight is not from eating to much, or anything. It is from not eating at all. I usually don't eat until 9pm at night and even then its not healthy. I "snack" on white cheddar popcorn throughout the day but that is it. I am not trying to starve myself, I just never feel hungry and have no desire to eat unless I am hungry. What can I do to help this problem?

Plan out snacks or small meals and make it priority. Perhaps set alarms on your phone for reminder. Fruit, nuts, cheese. Things that are easy and don't take much prep.

Thanks :) I think a major issue was I just had my son 9 months ago, and I am still transitioning into this new lifestyle of mommyhood.

The issue with not losing weight is ALWAYS from eating too much. Caloric deficit = weight loss 100% of the time. Of course, it's not quite that simple i.e. averages over time, amount of activity, etc.

All that popcorn and/or large dinners must be adding up to more than you think if you're maintaining by eating one meal a day and a couple "snacks".

Log for a week... you'll be suprised.

Stop eating the popcorn. Make better choices. A small portion of turkey or chicken breast and veggies maybe

You must be eating too many calories of popcorn. Stop the popcorn and eat real meals.

When I found out how many calories (1000+) were in the large theater popcorn I had been eating for years I almost broke into tears. We all live in our dream worlds. Time to wake up.
  • Start your day with some form of protein. Even if it's hard boiled eggs or a shake. Sounds like you are putting your body into starvation mode so that whatever you do eat is instantly stored as fat for the body to use later. 5 or 6 small meals a day, including protein and complex carbs so your body will know it's not going to starve.

I just checked out your profile real quick and if you are a stay at home mom, then my advice is simply to be active. I know what it entails, my wife stays at home with our 3 kids, and I know that it can be lonely, boring, tedious, and often not that strenuous if the child is small and doesn't require a whole lot. Cherish the times when you can put him down in one spot and find him there when you come back. As soon as they are mobile, piece of mind goes out the window. By being active, you can try to get your body to make that hunger a priority since it will need fuel. Also by being active you get yourself out of the rut of boredom snacking. I say that, because when I am bored it is easy for me to think then that I need to eat. Next thing I know, there is only half a bag of cheetos left. I'm not a big fan of pre-planning my meals or pre-logging my days, but I try to stock the house with meals. I have a basic idea of how much they are worth and choose the one that fits the occasion. If I need more protein, low calorie, high calorie, just give yourself options. Best of luck, and congrats on the baby boy.

    HI,

Try 100 calorie snacks, foods low in fat and salt. One thing that I have learned is you have to eat. You have to feed your body. Try protein shakes to fill you up or get a bullet for fruit smoothies when you are on the go. Time to pull out the microwavable containers and sandwich baggies....pre plan your meals. Eat small portions every 2-3 hours. If you starve your body when you do eat your body will retain the calories and nutrients for storage, thus hitting a plato. Good Luck!
