First post... feeling discouraged

I've been counting calories and exercising for almost 50 days now, and I've had some rather good results! However, I've been extremely stressed lately with finals coming up, and while this had lead to me putting in extra time at the gym, it's also caused me to go back to my old ways of overeating and snacking on junk food. I know that one or two days of going over by a few hundred calories won't kill me or cause me to gain all of my weight back, but I'm afraid that this bad habit will continue. Any suggestions on managing stress without pigging out all the time?? :frown:

I'd say the biggest thing would be to NOT buy the junk food. If it's in the house, it's bound to be eaten. The good news is that you are exercising, and that can be a good stress reliever.

Plan ahead - even if I don't keep junk food in the house, I used to end up buying it when I was at work, etc and didn't come prepared. I spend an hour or so on Sundays making snacks/lunches for the week. If I have a healthy snack/lunch with me, I'm way less likely to grab junk food or over eat.

What she said - keep the junk food out of the house. Keep exercising. And, the old instructor in me has to say, start prepping for your finals NOW - do not wait until the 11h hour. You have changed your habits over the 50 days - keep the new ones. And, if you have a bad day, log it, reflect on it and move on. Best of luck on your exams!

^Nice blog post. I agree with everyone that you have to stay out of the drive thru's, junk food aisles and anyplace that creates weakness for you. Even so, find treats that work for you. Package serving-sized portions and take them with you when you're away from home. Get some good tasting protein bars and have one of those and some water when your cravings get out of control. Learn to head off cravings at the pass and you'll be amazed at your self control. It's a learned thing and you can do it.

You will be amazed at the feeling you will get when you work through stress without turning to food; it is liberating.

Stess cause alot of hormones to race through our bodies and a up and down weight can be a side affect no matter how you are erating, but try and stay motivated and stay away from the junk. maybe try a stick of sugar free gum or some tic tacs in your mouth if the feeling of something in you mouth helps. i wish you luck and hope you keep with it.

I drink a lot of hot tea in those stressful desk crunch time days.
