Inspirational analogy

Just thought I'd share this as it really tickled me and has totally shifted my brain into a better place.

Last year I lost a lot of weight and felt great, though I hadn't reached my goal I became complacent and over winter put 10/11 lbs back on. This week I have started exercising and eating well and have lost a little bit of the extra weight but was still feeling low as I am still heavier than I was last year, beating myself up for putting it back on etc.

My husband said to me: just think of it like you've done a really long journey and you've turned around and started heading home again. Although you still have a way to travel you're heading home now.

I loved that. It has shifted my head into a positive place and now instead of feeling fed up about losing weight, like it's a chore, I now feel positive because it's worth the effort, soon I will be 'home' and I'm no longer heading away.

I now that won't work for a lot of people but I thought I'd share just in case it helps.

Glad you've shifted your mindset, that's great.

Beating yourself up is never productive. At best it achieves nothing, at worst it makes you feel like giving up altogether. Always speak positively to yourself.

If long term compliance is difficult, find ways to make it easier to stick to... e.g. ways to enjoy all the foods you want to enjoy while exercising good portion control, and make whatever exercise you do something you enjoy and will find it easy to stick to. The less like a chore all of what you do seems, the easier it is to stick to forever.
