I've never seen anyone put "pds" instead of "lbs" . . . that's freaking weird haha. Would bother me too!

    I'll bite...

Seeing the word 'women' used in the singular drives me batty. I encounter it on social media enough to make it worrisome. Seriously- it doesn't sound wrong to the person when writing "I am a strong women"?????? Do these people not hear the words they're typing in their head? It utterly baffles me.

My other main pet peeve is people who play what I call 'leap frog' on the highway. You know the ones- they clearly don't have their cruise control on- you pass them, and moments later, they pass you, and get back in front of you. You, being awesome have your cruise control set, and suddenly you find you might just ramrod their tail end if you don't get over. So you pass them. A little while later, they pass you again.... rinse and repeat. HOLY ****, PICK A DAMN SPEED!!!!

it's not ACTUALLY the 'fast' lane. Officially it's the passing lane- either way- doing the speed limit in the passing lane when other people aren't is rude as balls.

Just for you OP! And by the way, I do post my huge twin pregnant belly to show how very far I have come from then. I am proud of the fact that I carried two lives in me at the same time (plus 5 singletons) and that I didn't stay that shape inspite of it. It didn't take me 6 weeks , but that's ok too. As a mom of 7, I know it takes a lot to lose the baby weight.

wow, wish I had such miniscule problems to worry about.. must be nice, eh?

I know, right? Like my dad having a stroke and being diagnosed with cancer in a three year time span, and my mom being diagnosed with a whole host of health problems in the last year. Losing someone I would most likely be married to (and having children with) by now, four years ago.
    World Poverty.
    Child Slavery.
    Sex Trade.

SO much to get ragingly upset about.
However, the OP was referring to irks. Pet Peeves. Admittedly petty things that get under her skin.
I have pet peeves. I also have a whole bunch of personal mountains I am fighting to get up and over. Doesn't mean I don't also have petty issues with petty things. I'm not asking for a medal here, I'm just trying to make you see that she has a right to feel the way she does about the things she does. These were fitness-related pet peeves of hers- and we ALL have them whether or not we want to admit it.

People need a reality check when they think that their life struggles mean other peoples pet peeves are a moot point.

i love when people are like "my life sucks" and then others just can't help themselves and have to play the Pain Olympics and tell them how much more their own life sucks. like an effing twisted competition that if you win, you lose.

That's a game I don't want to have an edge on. Ever.
    Lol.
On that note, no ones pain is any more or less than anyone else... it's merely different. The whole idea of someone being above reproach because some event, singular or otherwise, enlightened them to some almost unreachable level, is asinine. Never mind that people actually accept this mentality.
I don't expect people to know what it's like to be in my head for a day. Dear God I don't know if I could survive a day in another persons. Probably not.
    Regardless.
People that drop weights and RAWR with masculine dominance thereafter? Bug me.

As a mom that was within a healthy BMI range 3 days after giving birth, it is a hell of a big deal to go through pregnancy and not blow up to twice your size. It's commendable, and if nothing else, it shows that if you can be in control when you're pregnant, others can too. I fail to see how posting pictures like these are a problem.

That is awesome that you were in the healthy BMI range 3 days later. I tend to gain around 50 with each pregnancy even with not going crazy and definitely not being sedentary.(Except my first when I gained 80! I wasn't very good with the diet or exercise then) I have to work it off each time. I think it is great when women can lose the weight quickly. I am not one of those. It takes me somewhere between 6-9 months to lose all the baby weight, but I do it. Either way it takes effort.

So, i've encountered plenty on this journey so far. And along this wonderful journey of mine, i have come to realize some of my major pet peeves when it comes to social media and weight loss.

    1. When people write "pds" after a numerical value instead of "lbs". Correct me if i'm wrong, or maybe this is a regional thing...but i always thought it was "lbs".

    2. "Before and After" pics, but the person posts their "After" before the "Before". Again, please correct me, but reading from left to right, i expect to see the older pics on the left, and the new one on the right.

    3. Pictures of meals. Simply said, some dishes look delicious like yummy yogurt with fruit, and some other foods...just don't need to be posted. Keep it fresh.

    4. Pictures of you sweating after a workout. We get it, you worked out hard and congrats on the hard work ! But sometimes, those sweaty pics just aint the business.

    5. (This last one is out of pure healthy jealousy :-) ) The before and after's of new mothers. Like i mean you just had the baby 4 weeks ago, new mothers. It's natural for moms to lose A LOT of weight immediately after giving birth. Water weight, breast feeding, and some women just quickly shrink back to their pre-weight. I'm a store manager of a maternity store, i see it all. I understand you are excited about losing the weight, i am for you as well. But "-36lbs in 6 weeks!" captions ? Enough said.

These are just some of my pet peeves that i come across on social media on a daily bases. Don't take anything personal. Also, these are healthy pet peeves, I'm not out here to disrespect anyone. Anyways, care to share some of yours?

pds..... guess you never saw a typo before.... p & l are kinda close on any keyboard & easy to hit mistakenly. But then I am extra nasty cause I use kg and not even lbs.

before & after pic order, sorry but if you can't pick what one is what regardless of the order.... you are in for a whole heap of hurt.

photos of meals, far out really... people just want to show the FOOD not a gourmet restaurant presented meals. Get over it

photos of sweating, sorry I didn't think sweat was a bad thing. It cleans your body by sweating out toxins, makes you feel like you actually did workout (even though you can workout heaps & not sweat a drop...sweat is no indicator of a good workout) but bloody hell is it that offensive to you? It's water.... be thankful they are not showing you the other toxin releases of the body.

the new mother thing, well I don't know I'd have the time for working out as a new mum but all the more to them cause I wish I'd looked like that after mine... it took me 18years to start mine.

In short.... your pet peeves are nothing more than words of hate & jealousy. They have no place in a forum that should support....... that though never happens here so you actually fit right in.

I don't believe anyone said it was a problem, it's rather just a personal irk of some people. When a friend of mine gained a bunch of weight during pregnancy (read: fat, not baby/water weight, straight fatty mass gain) and then turned around and got it back off again (couple pants sizes)? I was impressed.
When a body building friend of mine, who was fit, toned, and cut her entire pregnancy had a baby? Her before/afters were a little less inspiring. It showed her ability to show self control, yes, and that's commendable. But if she had shown them off as a "check it out, I didn't let myself go and I did what was best for me and my baby!" (high risk pregnancies not withstanding here), I would have been more impressed.
At least, this is my gripe. Someone else might be different.

To add to that, if I'm using the left lane to pass (let's say a semi), and I am going over the speed limit, do not fly up on my *kitten* and tailgate me. I'm already using the lane as it's intended, and I'll get back over as soon as I pass. Until then, get off my bumper before I test your brakes.

I find reactions to any OP on this web site to be hysterical and almost always blown out of proportion or distorted. It's so funny that the OP was as honest as possible in saying they were both "pet peeves" and she was not wanting anyone to take it personally. But just about everyone did take it personally or generally took offense. Do you honestly not have pet peeves? If you don't, you're probably happier than me and shouldn't be responding to posts like this on this web site.

Sorry to say, but I bet just about everyone has pet peeves, otherwise the world would be a better place. There's a reason for the phrase, "Hell is other people," because there's truth there for most of us. I bet it used to bug Gandhi was that he ate vegetarian and didn't get to sleep with those women in his bed.

This I can see. It is amazing to see people who can continue intense workouts and stay fit during pregnancy ( I have a friend who runs like crazy pregnant or not). I get that it isn't a big transformation per say. It is definitely a great accomplishment to keep going even while pregnant.

Or the ones that pass in both lanes because they're going 20 miles over the speed limit? It literally makes me nervous when someone passes on the right as I'm PASSING ON THE LEFT OK omg.

Weighing in on this. Having moved to Boise, from California and Oregon, the drivers appear just so ridiculous. Most of them are actually ridiculous, like don't know how to do things like use turn signals or not drive for blocks and blocks in a turn lane...

...but many of them are just jerks on the road. Left lane doing slower than any other lane. Never a turn signal or one at the absolute last second, as they are making the turn / merge.

The worst, however, are the two following scenarios: you come upon a car moving slowly, want to pass them, signal to the left and begin to speed up. They see you and speed up even more, because their penis and/or vagina is much bigger and (75% of the time) no ***** in a sedan is going to pass my monster truck.

    OR

The opposite. Someone rides your butt until you merge to another lane. They then take 4.5 minutes passing you at the most ridiculously slow speed that is only incrementally "faster" than yours. Thanks, jack@ss.

ETA: I didn't realize the first post that I quoted pretty much said this. It kills me to ever have to take it off on cruise control. In a city like Boise, driving out to a city like Caldwell, on a four-lane highway, one never needs to take it out of cruise as long as others are paying ANY amount of attention.

...Grammatically, it isn't "don't take it personal" it is "don't take it personally."

Yes and no... I'd just like to point out that flat adverbs are perfectly acceptable in colloquial speech.... i believe an internet forum qualifies as such. :flowerforyou:

    AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you so much for saying this. I TEACH English and get such crap when I say I'm doing "good," even though I am quite aware that the grammatically correct response is "well." I say something went real fast, even though I know I should say quickly or swiftly or an adverb, which typically ends in "-ly."

HOWEVER, I don't really care to come off as a judgmental prick. I like the fact that I use figurative language like proverbs and generally goofy, short phrases that get the point across. I like sounding like a real person who came from a real background, not like I popped out of a grammar book. I am a more colloquial speaker, I guess.

Anyway, really excited that you were able to say that and in such a succinct manner, something I obviously struggle with.

I want to do serious bodily harm to those people.

left lane bandits thinking they are elected officials acting as police and self righteously going the speed limit in the left/passing lane.

it's not ACTUALLY the 'fast' lane. Officially it's the passing lane- either way- doing the speed limit in the passing lane when other people aren't is rude as balls.

I want to punch a babie and kick a puppy every time I run into someone who does that. get over yourself.

Right along with this whole section. Spent a lot of time on the road Easter weekend and more than once I felt the need to apply my head to the steering wheel.

OMG, yes to all of the above! Quite frankly, I don't care how you drive or how dumb you might be when you get behind a wheel, UNTIL you either impede what I'm doing (ie, make me take my cruise control off on the interstate) or put my children (who are with me 99.9% of the time) in harms way by your negligent/assholish/horrible driving.

Oh, and high beams on a divided interstate. WHY? There are no sudden turns or curves and everything has reflective paint on it. Barring a deer (and your high beams aren't going to prevent that) there's nothing unexpected to encounter.

I am not much bothered by the poor spelling on MFP, but THANKS for posting about PDS
"Pretty much anywhere else is metric and will use kg and/or pds (an actual 500 gram pound). "

OK, I have to explain this.. can't stand ignorance whether intentional or not.

In North America, lbs are used. But, that's not the only continent in the world on MFP.

In the UK you'll often see Stone.

Pretty much anywhere else is metric and will use kg and/or pds (an actual 500 gram pound).

Now maybe you won't be so irked anymore.

As for the rest of your rant: whatever.

    *Edited to add "only"

For some reason I'm always annoyed when someone calls it a "Journey". A journey has an end. I don't call it my "journey" it's just my life...

Just FYI, your life has an end.

Yes buy FYI a journey you know when the ending is. You plan a journey to end on a particular day or week. Life... unless you are planning on suicide....

Would you say the same is true for going on an unexpected journey, like Bilbo?

Precisely. Bilbo's was a journey. IMO a journey has a planned destination, but not always a planned end based on time.
