Went over maintenance today. Redemption tomorrow?

Went over my maintenece b/c of a fast food binge by about 900 cals. Technically tomorrow if I burn 900 extra calories wouldn't that erase any surplus I had today? I hate doing damage control when I binge, I know I don't "have to" but in my head the surplus needs to be erased the day after. Any thoughts on this?

It could be pretty tough to do in one day. If you're really determined to do it, short yourself a couple hundred calories every day for the rest of the week.

    OR

Just log it and get back to your regularly scheduled calorie deficit. It almost certainly isn't enough to make a difference.

If you think like that, like you have to be perfect all the time, it might be tough for you to sustain. There is nothing you need to redeem. You ate more on a certain day. That is part of life. It doesn't mean you are a failure, that you "fell off the wagon", that you are a bad person, that you are weak, sinful, lazy, or anything else. All it means is that you ate more on one day. You chose to eat more. You enjoyed your food. Tomorrow you resume your more typical eating regimen. And life goes on.....

Wow, mcdonalds and burger king. Don't listen to these people, you need to double down for next few days and learn from this mistake. Whatever you do don't weigh yourself for at least a week, as the 7000mg of sodium is going to make you retain a few pounds just in water and will take days to stabilize again. I suggest tomorrow you hop on a bike, go for a run or even a long walk to burn some of this off.

I binged on Monday and it took me until today to finally level out the surplus. For me it has to be "erased" by the end of the week, not necessarily the next day. But it DOES have to be gone

Yeah, don't do that, that's how nasty cycles of binging and fasting get started, not long after that you wind up with an ED. Just treat tomorrow as if today never happened. It's in the past, just move forward.

I'm still taking consideration of the others' comments however I agree with you. It was a bad binge and I plan on doing extra cardio for the next few days. I'm already retaining water from my normal 2500-4000 mg sodium diet every day so with the 7000 I got today I'm going to be ridiculously bloated tomorrow.

    1. Log it.

    2. Move on.

    3. Don't beat yourself up. Take it from someone who knows a thing or two about binges...**** happens.

    4. I took a look at your diary. You seem to be running a huge deficit. One of the reasons this is not recommended it that it's not sustainable, and it will lead to binging when your body gets too hungry and your will power too weak. Try eating at least some of your exercise calories back. I had a period of several weeks where I was just eating everything not nailed down, and couldn't understand why. I was beating myself up about it, which wasn't helping matters either. Once I ran my numbers again, I saw that I was running too high a deficit. I couldn't sustain the calories I was on (and they weren't low either...just too low for how much activity I had). I raised them 200, and haven't had much of a problem since.

You know how you fix that, you drink more water.

Hmmm. So let's see...listen to someone who just started this site this month and has 8 posts, over those that have been on here for 1-3 years, who have lost weight, a couple even lost 76 and 86 lbs! Seems legit.

Seriously, it's one day, it's not going to ruin all of your progress. Log it, move on.

You have to make lifestyle changes that are sustainable. While you are losing your weight, you should also be living your life, not letting your "diet" run it.

There are no good/bad foods, only bad eating habits. It's about moderation not deprivation.

Oh but what do I know, I've only successfully lost 32 lbs eating all the foods at a deficit, workout out and lifting all the heavy things.

Looking at your diary for the past week, and reading these threads you've started recently...
    http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1247269-obsession-with-burning-calories
    http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1254117-my-net-calories-are-always-so-low-any-downside

I would suggest discussing exercise bulimia with your doctor before you find yourself in a full-blown eating disorder. And wouldn't even think about burning extra tomorrow to "erase" today's surplus. You're way, way under deficit for the week as it is.

If you feel the need to worry about it, just cut calories by 128 for 7 days. Burning in one day would most likely make you sick. Make sure you only cut if your calories are above minimum. Personally I wouldn't worry too much it is only .257 of a lb. (Notice the point ) if you are at a deficient this small bit iI doubt you would notice, heck drink a liter of water, before you pee you will weight 2.2 lbs more.
