Hula Hooping

Has anyone tried this (as an adult lol).
I've a few friends that actually go to classes and say it's really good fun and gives them a good workout. I'm thinking it might not be majorly effective, but if it's fun and burns calories I might give it a go. Don't think the weighted hoops are overly expensive and might be fun to use in the garden this summer.
Just wondered if anyone has tried it and what they think?

Love it. I did a hoop dancing class a couple of years ago and, er, HELLO STOMACH MUSCLES! It is a lot of fun and great exercise. It doesn't provide a massive calorie burn so I do it in conjunction with running and other exercise, but it's good for toning.0

I tried the weighted one, and actually got black & blue marks !!
The cheapy light-weight ones from Walmart ~ can't keep them up~better for little kids.
The mid-weight ones are great. but some people cringe at the $30-$40 price.
You can make your own with 160 psi ¾-inch flexible polyethylene irrigation pipe from Lowe's / Home Depot.

Hooping is great!
If you can make your own do it, I make them and its easy
If you want to buy one, try a 100cm diameter hoop or bigger. The smaller a hoop, the harder it is to do. Likewise weight; the heavier, the easier but they can hurt if too heavy. Kids flimsy hoops will not work for you hun:frown:
Firetoys sell nice 100cm hoops that are not too heavy or light and look pretty cool too.
Shop around or go buy some blue water piping ,HDPE I think its called, and make your own. Oh and some grippy gaffer tape too, but google how to make a hula hoop and see what you think0 -
Cool!! I like the idea of making my own, I love craft things so it's right up my street. Thanks everyone x0

I have an adult weight hula hoop and one called an accupressue hoop that has little bumps on it and is supposed to stimulate your digestive track (not sure this is true) the accupressure hoop does leave small bruises one me but i dont mind. I love Hula Hooping there aren't any places in my area to take a class but i have a DVD i follow at times. Most of the time though i just put music on and practice things on my own. Its a lot of fun and time flies while i do it. If i hoop for more than like 10 minutes i can really feel it in my lower back, abs and thighs. I highly recommend it even if its just on your own for 10-15 minutes a day.0
