A month in...

I have been using MFP consistently for a month now. I was also participating in a diet bet during that time. I'm proud to say that I have won my diet bet and have lost 15 pounds, which was a little over my 4% that I needed to lose. I've allowed myself to have what I want within reason and have tried to stick to my calorie goal most days out of the week. I've tried to encorporate more movement into my life (the nicer weather has made that a LOT easier). I used to feel like my weight was not in my control, I was just telling myself that I was going to have to get used to the fact that I'm fat and will always be fat - and then something clicked. I can't tell you how much control I feel by eating within my calorie goal. It's an amazing feeling. I still have a TON of weight to use, but I plan to stick with it, join another diet bet, and slowly meet my goals.
I enjoy reading all the posts on here and the words of wisdom I run across. Thanks for that!

Congratulations on your weight loss, and even more importantly on your new relationship with food! It's such a dramatic thing when you control your food instead of it controlling you. I have discovered that since I am a pretty competitive person (who hates losing) I make a small bet with my husband to meet the goals that we set up for me. Every 2 weeks we evaluate and adjust. It's the best motivation I have ever had.
One word of caution - it looks like you have a long way to go, be careful that the changes you make are not SO drastic that they are not sustainable long term. Whatever you do, don't burn yourself out! 15 pounds in 1 month is crazy awesome, but you shouldn't expect to repeat that every month for the next 6 months. Good luck on your journey!0 -

Thank you! I haven't made a lot of drastic changes because I've done that before and it just doesn't work for me. I LOVE food, so I am trying to focus on something that I can stick to. I've cut back a little bit on how much I eat out and what I do eat when I'm there. I've become more mindful of portion sizes and what I can eat that will keep me fuller longer. It has been a real enlightening experience this time.0 -
I started on April 1 and so today also completes my 1 month mark on here. 8 lbs down, haven't really noticed much different except that the excercising is getting easier, thank goodness.
Good Luck on your journey.0 -
