Porridge for breakfast

MFP tells me that one instant sachet of Oatsosimple porridge oats has 1,539 carbs when my daily carb intake should aim to be only 128!!!!

I thought porridge for breakfast was healthy and a great source of energy!?

Confused :S

Can anyone explain this? As I have porridge for breakfast every day without fail this worries me. Thanks!

That sounds like a family sized sachet. Thinking someone really logged those numbers in wrong. Try the actual company's site for how many carbs are in a serving.

Human error - MFP does not enter the nutrition information for foods, members do. This is why you have to check that you are selecting the best possible match when choosing food entries.

You've picked a dodgy entry. Look for another one. Also go for normal porridge oats it doesn't take much longer to cook and doesn't have the added sugar the instant ones have. Oh and carbs aren't bad.

Right ok, thanks everyone! It did seem really out of proportion but I didn't realise that MFP didn't enter the information itself.

If it's wrong on mfp, you can always look it up and correct it. I tend to double check all foods I add for the first time and edit if it's wrong - it helps other mfpers as well as not having tons of entries for the same food. I also confirm the entry if it's correct. I get the information from either the packet or the website. The USDA also has a database of generic foods you can look up. http://ndb.nal.usda.gov/ndb/foods

    HTH. All the best :)

many of the entries in the database have been put in by users accuracy varies unfortunately
it may be the the item you chose from the database does have added sugar and therefore sodium
it's more likely a mistake and you should chose another option from the database

the following thread is really helpful, especially on selecting items from the database and weighing solids measuring liquids

I had porridge this morning, I make it from rolled oats and milk powder (then add water and microwave) so i can prep it the night before and take it to the office

this morning I used 31g of oats, and 9g of milk powder >> 154cal (of which 26g carbs, 2g fat, 8g protein, 3g fibre)

how do you make it? if you use sachets then you should be able to check that the entry you select matches your packet

I make my porridge with 50g oats and 300mls milk which is 335 calories and 45 carbs. if your sachet is less than that eat something else with it (fruit, toast) to stop you feeling hungry and snacking later on!

always look for entries with the highest number of confirmations, select raw for vegetables etc.
