Drugging your coworkers (thieves or not) is an absolutely terrible idea. If something goes seriously wrong they could pursue legal action and you could lose your job. Not worth it.

Invest in a lunchbox and an icepack and just bring what you need for that day. It's ok if things thaw a little through the day so long as they stay cold. Or get the fridge locker - much more publicly passive aggressive but nonetheless effective.

I know someone who kept bringing in cream for their coffee which kept disappearing, even when they wrote their name on the container.

One day he decided to lace the cream with heavy duty laxatives, problem solved.

I just bring my food in my own lunchbox, with some ice packs and keep it at my desk. Bonus of having to pack lunch every day is awareness of what kind of calories I am eating while at work.

Or get the fridge locker - much more publicly passive aggressive but nonetheless effective.
its not drugging them. someone could easily need a laxative and keep it in a work fridge, if they decide to steal it its their own fault...

Someone was stealing from my bottle of V8. So I taped a dollar bill to the bottle and wrote, "Here's some money. Buy your own bottle."

I once had a half a pita pocket and some veggies in a styrofoam container, in a bag. Someone ate the sandwich, returned the scraps to the container, put the container back in the bag, and put the bag back in the fridge.

I was beyond furious. That's not just food theft, it's straight up pathological.

The next time I put food in the fridge, there was a note with it that read "Thanks for eating my leftovers last time. Feel free to enjoy them this time. I've already dug a hole in my backyard for you, just to be prepared."

    They stopped stealing my food.

This is the exact opposite of what happens in our office. No one takes their own food, let alone someone else's food, so half of the fridge is full of expired yogurt and moldy salad.

Yeah, it happened to me at my last job. But, this person threw my dinner in the trash. Tupperware and all... yeah, just took the whole tupperware container, and dumped it in the trash. WTF.

I wrote a sign on the fridge "DO NOT EVER THROW MY FOOD AWAY. THANK YOU. -ME"

I'm so glad I don't work there anymore, it was a horror show (still is)

Can they really sue you? I mean, they can't prove you didn't mean to eat it yourself and that you needed the laxatives. You can, however, prove that they stole your property.

You never know who has an allergy to those kinds of things or a preexisting condition that could cause a serious adverse outcome. While logically one would say "it's not my fault, it wasn't theirs anyway," the law interprets it very differently. It's just not a good idea. There are other ways to solve OP's problem that don't involve that sort of risk.

"But there were health costs, too, as one of her female co-workers discovered. "He had a huge cold sore and took a swig of her drink," she tells us. "And then she ended up getting a cold sore, like, a couple weeks later."

OK, why did the dumb*ss drink after he did?? LOL

If someone hops over a fence and past a no trespassing sign in your yard and sprains their ankle in the process, they can sue you. And win. Trust me, I've been through it. It's just not worth the risk.

This argument holds as much merit as someone with a peanut allergy suing me because I like peanut butter in brownies and they stole it. If the food is in an enclosed container (ziplock bag or tupperware) and they steal it, they do so at their own risk.

theres no way you could get into trouble from the law, they are the ones who stole. if someone has a pre-existing condition or allergy you think they would be smart enough not to drink/eat unknown foods. they took the risk in taking it, i just wanted to keep my poop juice cold

What if I just put ghost pepper powder on my food? I honestly enjoy the stuff even if I don't want it on everything... and then the less spice tolerant people here will learn to stay away from my food. Also, if people have preexisting health conditions and allergies then it's their own fault for eating someone else's food when they have no idea what's in there. Am I supposed avoid putting nuts in/on my food because someone might be allergic to it?!

Yeah, I happen to think that situation is total BS, as well, so that explains why I don't "get" it. Judges who rule in the favor of people who are victimizing others should be slapped in the teeth.

I put a type in caps and bolded note on the fridge saying..."PLEASE DO NOT TAKE FOOD/BEVERAGE THAT ARE NOT YOURS!"
Then I put "whoever took my "blank" I hope you choked on it!"

Not very mature but it made me feel better.
