Hello MF

I'm been lifting weights but I have stopped due to school but since I will be graduate in May, I will have a lot of time to get my body in shape. I have a personal trainer who does not know that I am asking for advise from my MFP, yet. I just started working out with him for a week and he's wonderful and kick my butt with weights and other things.

A few days ago, I went to GNC to see about their protein shake, the guy there try to sell me GNC Pro Performance AMP Amplified Wheybolic Extreme, he said its really good for post workout and he mention about what it has in it. Another guy at work said to me, there something better Vitamin Shoppe Optimum Nutrition. Now, have anyone try these two and what do you think? If you have not what do take after post workout?

Thank you

I think I use the first you listed in vanilla.. I am doing NROL for Women. They recommend that you drink a shake after each lifting session. The GNC shake tastes great and has about 20g of protein in it. I mix it with frozen fruit. I guess if you don't want to invest in shakes, eating anything with the same macros will work. The shakes are just convenient and you know you are getting the right amount of nutrients. Good luck and congrats on finishing school.

What you chose to take will depend on price, amount of protein per scoop, ratio of protein-to-carbs, taste, availability, whether you need the "extras" in either one etc. Check the labels and see what works best for you.

But I think the Optimum Nutrition one is a better bang for the buck (more protein per dollar). Even on the GNC site, a 5lb tub of ON is about $62, while a 3 lb tub of the AMP one is $77. Many people swear by ON.

Hey. I lift quite regularly and do protein after my workouts. I've always used Optimum Nutrition Whey- it tastes great (even when I just mix it with water) and is pretty good quality for protein.

When I was actively losing weight (I'm now maintaining), I used a vegan rice protein by Sun Warrior. Although it did NOT taste as good as ON, it had more protein and less calories, which was good.

Keep in mind that your body cannot absorb more than 20-25 grams of protein in one sitting. So any protien that has more than that per serving is wasting your money and calories.

HOWEVER. i find it better to get protein out of natural sources- protein is usually heavily processed. So eat more chicken, lowfat milk, eggs, etc. :)
