Workouts with S/O?

My boyfriend is an ex-power lifter and I'm DYING to get him in the gym with me! Our schedules just haven't lined up yet for that to happen.0

My situation is a little bit different but I'll share anyway.. I started training in February with the head of personal training at my gym (in other words, he is more of a manager, doesn't have a client schedule). Since then there has been chemistry between us and it has gone from him simply putting me through workouts to the both of us lifting together. I really enjoy it because I am learning a lot and he takes the time to correct my form, etc. even when he simultaneously working out. I think it just depends on your s/o's willingness to workout with another person (nothing personal - some people just like to work out alone). And to add - we are going on our first date tonight
Very unprofessional of him to sleep with clients - he is lucky You are not suing him.
No I'm not bitter - just realistic.
Erm where does it say they are sleeping together lol?
seriously we have not slept together nor do i plan on it (for now). is it a sin to meet someone you have chemistry with just because of the situation? sheesh0 -
No- I do not care to work out with him. He is actually incredibly uncomfortable doing stuff with me- I think he is self conscious.
Which is fine- gym time is ME time- even if we went together- we would not workout together- I don't like it.
If he wanted to learn- I would send him links- pointed in the right direction and answer questions- but I would not teach him. It's like teaching your GF to ride a motorcycle- it's best to let someone else do it.
Why? because
"here- you are doing this wrong- you're arms need to be here" from an instructor sounds like- you're doing it wrong I'm going to fix you.
from a significant other it sounds more like "I'm disappointed in you that you aren't living up to my expectations and why are you dumb that you don't get this"
both for men and for women.
It's rare to work with a SO in a training environment- one needs to be humble and objective- the other needs to be kind and clear. It often does not work out.
so I vote note- it's a special relationship to be able to do that. i have a working relationship with another guy i lift with- and we have no issues- but we aren't dating- so it's fine LOL. nothing gets taken personally.0 -
My wife and I go walking and hiking together. We also sometimes cycle together, on tours and for day rides with a destination. I'll go out with her for shorter 15-30 mile rides too, which tend to be a workout for her and a recovery ride for me, since I'm a stronger cyclist. I try not to be too annoying, though she does mutter about putting bricks in my panniers when I'm going up a hill faster than she is.
My strength training is pretty much bodyweight training at home right now, and we don't really do that together.
When we were in grad school and went to the university gym regularly, we would work out at the same time, but not necessarily doing the same exercises. We both ran then, so we would see one another briefly as I lapped her. We swam, too, but you don't really see much of fellow swimmers when doing laps.0 -
I started heavy lifting on my own and got comfortable with it. My boyfriend expressed interest in wanting to do some form of exercise and after not liking a DVD program he tried, he tried weight lifting with me. I taught him the lifts and he seems to like it. He's only been going with me for awhile but I enjoy myself a lot more with his company and the times flies by.0

I do agree it can strain the relationship a bit as there have been times where I'm trying to explain something and I use phrasing that he doesn't understand and can't relate to or he just doesn't get it and it gets heated for a minute. But we get over it quickly and by the next set we are good. I worried a bit that his ego would be challenged since I was teaching him in something that primarily done by men but he had no problem with it at and shows how proud he is in me every time we go.
I love having a spotter who I trust with my life and it's nice to spend time doing something I really love with him. It's also taught me that I lack some communication skills and blurt out half-thought out ideas with no background because in my mind the ideas sound fine.0 -

WUT?!?! why not?? fine, you've gotten your last free workout from me. See the cashier before your next session.0 -
I'd love to, but he's not interested. In the summer he likes to cycle and I'll join him from time to time.
I don't think I'd like all my work outs with him, but I'd love if once a week our schedules lined up and he was interested.

We used to run together, now go to the gym together but don't do the same workout. In the past my husband has done abs classes with me and has just started coming to my spinning classes. Walks and bike rides together (plus kids). However I find friends coming with me more distracting as I want to exercise and they want to chat...0

I don't do my main workout with the boyfriend, because being a bit of a computer nerd he doesn't work out, yet no matter how much I do he is still stronger and faster than me, it is so annoying. I suspect it's because his job keeps him really physically active.
We do try and incorporate physical activity into our everyday life, squash, swimming, hiking etc but that is always on top of a normal morning workout.0 -
Some go to the gym to pick up weights.
Some go to pick up dates.0 -
I prefer to workout with my s/o because it makes me feel more comfortable at the gym. Also he's good for being my spotter and helping me with weight lifting. Its just nice to have the support and company of someone you know. I personally hate working out alone. He also motivates me to keep going.0
