Lost 110 Pounds & Now Hip Surgery

I'm so happy to have lost 110 pounds in one year using MFP and I've gotten in the best physical shape of my life. I've maintained this loss for 2 years and now I'm getting sidelined. I have hip impingement in both my hips with labral tears. I'm in too much pain to deal with it anymore and going in for surgery (one hip at a time). I'm really bummed that my workouts will be sidelined and really worry about gaining. Going to put my calories into maintenance with sedentary and watch everything carefully.

Anyone else have surgery that sidelined them for a while? I was told 4 to 6 months rehab per hip.

I had 3 surgeries in less than a year in my past, and yes you can maintain, if not lose weight, during your rehab time. You have already given the answer: watch those calories. I had to go through a long rehab and months of PT, but I didn't gain anything. I was careful. You can do it.

I bet your recovery is going to be a lot quicker or better since you lost 110 lbs. (And WOW, congrats on that!). Good luck to you for a quick recovery!!:flowerforyou:

You will be doing physical therapy right away. I was able to go to gym and do elliptical after 1 month. Best of luck to you

Just think of how more active you'll be able to be afterwards. Try to eat less in the meantime... adjust your calories to sedentary. You can do this!

Wow, here I am, nearly one full year since I created this post. I'm nearly one year post op on the first hip surgery (June 2013) and I had the other hip done in October 2013. Doing great for the most part and going to start another round of physical therapy soon.
