One annoying thing about weight loss...

Or healthy living in general: People who always want to give you advice about what you should or should not do. Just like unwanted parenting advice, it isn't asked for and it isn't helpful! "Dr. Oz had a guy on his show today saying how you should eat less than 75g of carbs a day and how horrible gluten is for you." or "Oh this is so healthy for you, I know you're trying to go on a DIET."

I'm seeing results and I am feeling great about eating a balanced diet and living the way I am, it's just hard to let other people know to butt out of things. Do you guys face a lot of these types of things?

I did, but since my response is usually if I want advice I will ask for it, they don't bother anymore.

If it's family I punch them in the arm, and tell them if you can take me in a fight, I'll take your advice. If it's a stranger, I hit em in the face...

Meh.. Dr. Oz is a flake. My advice to you is to not watch that show. I know you didn't ask for the advice, so feel free to tell me to butt out, but I suspect that deep down you know its true.. watching that show is a waste of time that could be better spent doing anything else (cleaning the house, going out for a run, painting a portrait, brushing the dog/cat, vacuuming, you get the idea).

Hahaha so true. I am not a fan, but my mom thinks his word is gospel. Which makes it worse, because he always changes his mind. I guess there are always new 'tricks' and 'tips' and 'health fads' going on, you just gotta understand food labels and know what works for you! Better to do that than sit around watching TV for hours on end, definitely.

If I'm jealous of their body I'll listen carefully (usually happens at the gym), otherwise I'll just ignore.

What if you ask them to write it down for you and give it to you later and say that way if you START HAVING problems you will check into that.

    It lets them feel heard.
Makes them think twice about asking for risking having to write essays.
And points out nicely that you already know what you are doing.

I understand how frustrating that is. I learned not to talk about how I eat & that helped some. I learned to smile in response & not comment at all & that helped a bit, too.

I lost over 100 lbs and that stopped the rest. lol...

It's very frustrating when "well meaning" people have their opinions about what you need to do, how you need to go about it, etc. I'm down 120 lbs with 30 to go, and I am really tired of people saying, "I don't see where you have 30 lbs left on you". They can't see the fat left on my gut and thighs, nor do they know what the scale says or where my doctor and I think it needs to be, etc. I've started telling people, "my journey, my way". That usually shuts them up. ;) Good luck!
