So get up early and hit the gym then do your run or walk or whatever later on in the afternoon/evening.
That's what I do right now. I've been training for a race that's on Sunday and I've been hitting the gym in the a.m. and then doing my training in the afternoon and I plan on keeping that schedule when the race is done. I get to toss around my weights AND get outside for cardio.
That's a check mark in the WIN column.0 -
I can understand this. I backpack and hike. Sometimes it really hinders my recovery from lifting. However, in my mind, I lift so that I can hike and backpack, I don't hike and backpack so I can lift so if lifting has to take a backseat a little bit during backpacking months than I'm okay with that. I can hit it hard in the colder months when I can't hike or backpack. I guess this is kind of true for ski/snowboard season but I recover a lot quicker from those so I can usually maintain my lifting.0

I hate being inside as well and when the summer starts I usually live at my trailer so I hate going to the gym. I bought some free weights (at Walmart in Canada they are usually about $1 per pound - so 8 lb weights would be 8 bucks each) and I do weights really early in the morning or later in the evening. You can do stuff like tricep dips and step ups on park benchs too. I also like workouts from online like Fitness Blender. And if you want to do push-ups plus, check out these variations.http://www.builtlean.com/2011/03/02/push-up-variations-exercise/0

i may have to ditch weight lifting at the gym for the summer and start next winter it is too nice out to NOT walk my dog, jog my fav paths, hike a mtn, go for a walk or a bike ride, and SWIM in a LAKE (soon) I just cant force myself to the gym when all this fresh air and sunshine is going on Anyone else feel/do the same?
I do continue to do some push ups/situps/crunches/squats at home with free weights but it is quick and not like what i was doing at the gym to get my fitness in during the winter?
Just do what fit your schedule, and family/life style during the summer months. You can catch up with your strength training once the kids go back to school and the weather gets bad. Hey, you may even get some nice newbie gains when you get back to the gym.
I ditch the weights while on summer vacation, usually between 5 and 8 weeks. I do body weight, take my bands, and do lots of walking and I hit the gym hard when I get back. Keeping control of what goes in my mouth is more important to me. I like to add that for a couple months before vacation I go hard at the gym, so my body will appreciate the change of pace later on.0 -
i do supersets and keep leg day to 1.5 hours tops and arms to an hour or less.. this includes mobility drills and stretching before an after. The gym doesnt have to take a long time. I move over 20K pounds in that time frame.
bench/rows
squat/leg curls
deads/ glut ham raise
overhead press/pull ups
on arm days i throw in complexes of rear delt flys/ face pulls/ and curls
leg days i knock out abs with leg raise/cable crunch supersets
u can get a lot done if you dont F around... i only DONT do supersets on the few sets in the 85-95% 1RM range0 -

I completely understand. Since the weather broke, I cut my lifting days down to 2 days instead of 4. Now I'm outside all the time running, cycling or doing something else. I notice I am a hell of a lot faster after I started lifting so I will never give it up. I still love it and it will always be there when it gets colder again.0 -
