No running for me today unless running around counts.

I did a 5k last night on a very hilly course. I didn't run to improve my time because I ran with a fellow bootcamper that needed help and encouragement along the way. We finished the course in 38 minutes and that was a great time. We did a 5k in early June (our first) and it was a relatively flat course. He told me he finished that in 38 minutes so he had a good time on this race. The girl I normally run with on races finished in 32 minutes so I would have been near that time as well. It felt good to encourage someone on and help them reach a goal so I feel pretty good about that and my time didn't matter.

All you other runners out there, have a great run today. :drinker: :flowerforyou:

Way to go Sherry!:smooched: I agree it does feel good to encourage someone else during a race. That encouragement makes a difference. I have been on both sides. I've had someone encourage me and I have also encouraged someone else. I am excited about encouraging a fellow female runner during her first 10 miler in a couple of months. It'll be wonderful to be a part of her setting and achieving this goal.

Thanks Kechie. Your fellow runner is lucky to have you on a ten miler. I am not ready for that yet but I know when I am, I will need the encouragement to keep me moving.

It is funny though that we saw several runners going by themselves that we either passed or caught up to us and we would say words of encouragement to them. I don't think they knew how to take it. I think it makes a big difference.

No running for me today, but I ran/walked my 2.2 mile loop last night. Still having a little pain in my leg, but it seems better today. I'm hoping a couple of rest days will get it back to normal. Knee brace seems to help. Still dealing with a sinus infection, so my breathing isn't as good, so I've had to walk a bit more. But I'm still out there moving.... 5K is in 6 weeks. Hope I'm ready by then...

Hope everyone else has a great day!

You are right Sherry. I was reading about this in Runner's World magazine the other day. Research shows that it does work and that is why coaches yell at players from the sidelines. The external feedback changes your mental outlook which is huge when you are working your body hard. Basically, if you are running along feeling tired and someone yells "nice job", "you're almost there", etc., the article said your outlook improves. You start to think "I am almost there", "My form is looking good" instead of "I am dying!".

    Good morning!!

Wow, look at how many post we have already!!

I ran 4 miles this morning. Wanted to run more but since I'm planning a 10mile run this weekend, I thought I'd give my knees a little break by not pushing too hard.

Ali, I'm the same way, if I exercise in the evening that Adrenalin keeps me up to all hours. That's why I love to exercise in the mornings. Have fun on your 5 miles this morning pretty lady!

Sherry, way to go! I find that when I run with people that don't normally run I get all pumped up and it's like I'm trying to convert them into runners. lol Our passion for running really comes through when helping others. It's awesome!!!

Jess, welcome to the group! As you can read, we are a bunch of proud runners. Whether we are just beginning or are veterans, we keep each other motivated! Also, congratulations your 70lbs weight loss!! That is awesome!!!

Kechie, have a wonderful rest day! You deserve it!!

Margie, I hope you feel better soon!! My knee is bugging me too since I ran last weekend so I'm going to invest in a knee brace. I just know you will do great on your 5k!

Princess, enjoy your swim today! :flowerforyou:

PL, yes I am kidding. I feel like that a lot of times I run with the faster group. I hate longer runs because of it. I feel like I am slowing them down so I have to keep up at their pace.

Holy mackeral! Already so many good runs! :drinker:

Cut my foot when I kicked up a block of wood while mowing yesterday. :explode: It's still a little bit swollen so I don't think I'll go today. :grumble:

Welcome Jess & good job to everyone else!! :smooched:

If it's swollen maybe you should have it checked out. You need that foot to run sis!

Thank you! I have 2 good friends that I train with, it makes the 4:30AM wake up call much easier when you have someone to meet! We have trained for 2 half marathons, one full, and this year we got into triathlons. Are you training for a half or full? Be careful w/ the knee pain, I've had and IT band injury and it is NO fun. Do you have a foam roller? That really helped me a lot!

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome! I love talking running, racing, and anything fitness related really! LOL

    Good Morning Everyone!!

What great posts and enthusiasm this morning! Its Thursday and everyone is still going strong!

Shannon - now I remember why I have never touched a lawnmower - 'dem things is dangerous!! I am such a clutz I would have definitely lost a limb by now!! :noway:

I haven't been able to post much as work is still very busy, but I check in when I can to make sure everyone is doing what they are supposed to be!! I have been able to maintain my workout schedule but I am running the risk that my kids won't remember who I am soon!!

I ran 4 miles tempo run last night in 33minutes! Getting faster as race day approaches! One of the guys in my group noticed that I was keeping pace with him last night and said 'wow, you have really gotten much faster this summer'. that was a nice pat on the back from someone who I didn't think even knew I existed.

After running I had time to do my 'on the ball' strength class - that was fun! Got a great butt workout!

Welcome Jess!! Hope you love our little group as much as we do!

HEY MOMS!! check out this blog site - www.runumother.com - some interesting reading/info....

Ali- I remember the sillies, they are fun....in hindsight  I don't know how you managed to get up and be the first to post and run this am. Great Job! :drinker:

Jess- Welcome, your story is very motivating...one questions, what will a foam roller do for your knee? I have a little knee pain in my right knee, started after a foot injury. anyway just curious.

Everyone else, good job or have a nice rest day.

I had another great mini run, 30 minutes of intervals which calculated 2.6 miles...I felt like I was going to throw up when I got done but I felt great! :embarassed:

    Morning runners"

No run again for me today, did a leg and back workout. Will aim for a run this weekend.

Jess: Welcome. Nice hearing from you here too!!

Sherry: It is so true about giving encouragement. It does make the world of difference. Although I do enjoy my solo runs, I appreciate it when I have someone to run with as well. We are always boosting, daring and pushing each other to go that extra minute.

Shannon: Ouch!! That sounds painful. Make sure to keep it clean.

Mireille: I certainly wouldn't worry about time when doing a long run. Remember the story about the tortoise and the hare. I am just in awe that you can do 10 miles. I think it is amazing. One day I guess. I started running late in life and have been at it for close to 3 years (although not much in the winter, hate Treadmill running), so just happy I can get out and move!

Okay, off to catch some rays. A rare day of sunshine, this summer at least!

    Carol
  • Hello runners... I plan to run today at lunch or either tonight when I get home. My legs are still so sore from the 4 miles I did two days ago. I will probably run 3 today for time. I have to get it in under 31 minutes according to the Marines... I've never had trouble with it, usually do it in a bout 29 minutes or so... with all of your RUNNERS out there, is there anything I can do to shorten my run time???? I can run ALL DAY at my own pace, but when you put a time on it, I'm never really as great as I want to be... I just had my first baby 8 months ago, so that slowed me down a little bit at first, but my pace has gotten a lot better! So if you guys have any information that would be nice!!!

Good luck with everyone today!!! Have a blessed one!!
