Super random non-fitness related question, but for two of my classes this year, my professor is putting the book he is writing online for us to use, which means all my reading for two of my classes will completely online. It's pretty inconvenient to drag around my laptop, and my phone is too small for comfortable reading. Anyone have any experience with a Kindle Fire? That's what I'm thinking about buying. I'm open to other suggestions as well....

The kindle fire seems to be more tablet than ereader. If you want a tablet, go for it. If you're just looking for something for textbooks, kindle paperwhite is cheap and you can read in sunlight.0

Ahhhhhhh Kindle is amazing! I personally don't like the one that looks like a tablet as it strains your eyes, I prefer mine which is just like reading a book. The touch screen but with the e-ink technology. The battery lasts for ever and a day too.
For my birthday however I was given an Ipad Air and just so happened to have the kindle App on it. This is great when I don't have my kindle for some 'unplanned reading' but like i said, that kind of screen hurts my eyes.
My two cents...0 -

Yup.
I have both. The Fire is good for videos, internet, and other tablet-y things. The Paperwhite is the ideal e-reader.0 -
yeah, I was worried about my eyes getting tired... that's my primary concern. I'm not 21 anymore0

I bought my one of my teenagers a Kindle Fire for Christmas. They love it. No issues.0

I use the old Kindle without the keyboard (not paperwhite) because the contrast of the bright background kills my eyes. I love my Kindle, and I also like that I can put my own text files and things on there.0

I have the Fire and a couple of regular ol' Kindles. The Fire is more like an iPad; you can watch movies and listen to music and play games on it. The standard Kindle is more for just reading, although it will play MP3s through a headphone jack. If you read a lot, the Kindle is a great device. If you want something more multi-purpose, the Fire would suit you better.0

I just have the original kindle but I love it (I need a computer now too though so might go tablet route). I always have it in my purse so I will never again be in the situation of sitting in waiting room, waiting for a bus or dinning by myself without something to read. There are so many free books and getting new literature (or old) on loan electronicly from the library couldn't be easier (and free). It's the best. Oh, and you can send yourself pdf docs, so I made a word doc with all my favorite recipes, converted it to a pdf and sent it to my kindle. Now I always have those recipes at my finger tips when I need them.0

Another vote for the paperwhite - if you are only using it to read, you cannot beat it0 -
I have a kindle fire and use it all the time for online and reading. Typing on it as we speak
The 'books' are easy to read and the fire is comfortable to hold. Definitely recommend.

I also have both...love my Kindle paperwhite for plain text reading, Fire HD/HDX are good if you have color illustrations, etc. If I could only have one for reading, it would be the Paperwhite hands down. No back lit screen means no eyestrain.0 -
I love my Kindle Fire! It's great for when I don't wanna fire up my laptop! The only thing I don't like about is it doesn't have bluetooth capability, because I wanted to get a wireless keyboard to go with it 'cause I'm not a fan of touch screens. (Freakishly big hands). Other than that, it's great!0

I have a Kindle Paperwhite and I love it a lot. I tried a friends Kindle Fire and it's great but slightly heaver than the Paperwhite (in my opinion).0

I have two, one is like the 2nd generation kindle with the buttons at the bottom and the other one is the kindle touch. I love them both, but I didn't opt for the built in 3G with the touch and now I regret it.0

I love my Kindle, it goes everywhere with me...0

I love the Kindle Paperwhite. I'm an insomniac and my husband is not, so the lighted background is perfect because I can keep the room light off if he is asleep.0
