Vitamin D dosage

I'm looking at taking vitamin D supplementation along with the CLA I currently take. I have been told by certified sports nutritionist, Rehan Jalali, that taking vitamin D alongside CLA has health benefits and will support my plan and goals.
My question is (which I regret not asking him when I met him) what dosage of vitamin D would I need? I have looked online and you can get dosage between 400UM and 5000UM! I'm currently taking 4-6g of CLA a day.

I think to get it right you would have to have some blood work tests...0
-
This is more a question for a doctor or pharmacist...while uncommon, there is a risk of toxicity if you take too much.
For adults, the RDA is 600 IU0 -
Get some sun. It is hard to over dose from the sun. Or get blood work at doctor's office.0
-
Start with blood work to se what your Vitamin D level is. Mine was low and my Dr. Recommended 2000 IU/day.0
-
I've read that in general, one should not supplement more than 1000 IU per day unless directed to do so by a doctor.0
-
I dont recommend that you take it on your own! Get a blood test and see how much you need if any.
I have severe vitamin D deficiency I take 50,000 IU once per week.
Check with your doctor first...Good luck hope you don't need it0 -
i have a deficiency, so I take 1,000 iu per day + whatever is in my multi vitamin.
If you need vitamin D, put on a tank top, take off your hat and go for a walk.0 -
I had a severe deficiency (optimal levels are between 40 and 100...mine was 9.4) and so upon finishing a 6 month course of 50,000 IU pills once per week I now take 4,000 IU/day. Couldn't hurt to stop into the doctor and get tested, it's just a quick blood test (and if you haven't had it done recently, you can get your cholesterol and all that good stuff checked, too - they can probably work it into a routine physical that might even be covered by insurance 100%, depending on your plan). That way you can confirm with your doctor how much to take. It's really difficult to get TOO much vitamin D, especially through supplements since they aren't absorbed terribly well, but if you need more than you're planning to take, that would be really good knowledge.0

I agree that you should get it checked by your doctor before taking a supplement.
I had a deficiency and was on a prescription dose for 8 weeks. I now take a D3 supplement daily of 1000 units.0 -

You would have to take a whole bottle of pills at once before you got to that toxicity problem. I had a vitamin D deficiancy a while back and my doctor perscribed me pills that were 50,000 IU and had me take one a week. I asked if that seemed high and he said that whatever my body didn't absorb would just be expelled by urine. Your body will absorb what it needs and get rid of the rest.0 -
I take liquid vitamin D3 1000IU every morning. I use to have low vit d levels, so talk to your doctor on that one.
My boyfriend takes 10000IU (5000 in the morning and then at night) to raise testosterone and increase his gains.0 -
You really need to get it checked out. My level was 9 when I was initially diagnosed. I took 100,000k a week for 3 months, a month off and kept repeating for over 2 years with 50k per week until it got to 25. My recommended daily dose is pretty high (20k) but the Dr said to do it. I was also told that as one gets older your ability to get it from sunshine diminishes.0

I take 5,000 IUs daily. The risk of overdosing is way overblown by medical professionals that have not done research in the area. Check out vitamindcouncil.org.0

I like it at least three times a week...
Oh that's now what.... :blushing:

I used to take 50,000IUS of D2 a day (yes, I said 50,000); it's a prescription. I could not keep my level in a normal range. I switched to D3 and finally had success. I took 5000IUS for several months to raise my level to the normal range. I dropped down to 2000IUS of D3 per the dr's recommendation...my levels dropped off during the winter, and I had to go back up to 5000.
Get some bloodwork done to test your current level and see if you are deficient to begin with. At minimum, I take 2000IUS a day (as a side note, I'm redheaded and wear sunblock CONSTANTLY).0 -
I recommend getting a blood test and following your doctor's prescription. Many people are deficient in Vitamin D and don't know it. Vitamin D deficiency can lead to many unpleasant medical conditions.0

My Vitamin D intake is severely lacking.
Me too. My "supplements" don't seem to be cutting it either. I guess I will need to find something a bit more heavy duty or find a good natural source to get my Vitamin D.0 -

I'm vitamin D intolerant. Which is odd being I’m a natural source of it.0

You're both on the approved doner list, so have hope!!0 -
I could use some Vitamin D as well. Maybe even a double dose, just for good measure.0

My question is:
How much time do you spend outside in the sun each day?
Your body makes its own Vitamin D from sunlight.
