Late night snacking

I eat healthy and great all day, then right before bed I want to snack like crazy. Here lately it's been getting worse I usually have a yogurt or string cheese and go to bed but, the past few nights after I'm in bed for a bit my stomach will start growling uncontrollably. I've tried drinking water it helps for a few minutes but then I just end up going and eating something..I tend to make poor choices when I am really hungry..I'm like addicted to cheezits it's pathetic. I've tried everything Greek yogurt with a pear for protein and fiber, I've done almonds and am apple, ect..nothing seems to keep me full at night. Any suggestions?

I think that planning is crucial, whatever you do. So can you allocate more calories to your snacks? Or eat your tea later? Or have an extra meal before bed, like the old fashioned "supper"?

I genuinely don't think the timing of when you eat has any impact on your weight (I wouldn't be losing otherwise), rather it's what you eat. I tend to leave plenty of calories for late night so I can reward myself with treats then. When you're eating cake at 11, it doesn't feel like you're on a diet. ;) Trick is to plan the day in advance so you can afford the calories to do that.

I've had more success since I started planning my calories around when I know I get hungry, as opposed to when society thinks I should.

I took a look at your diary and you are routinely an enormous 800 calories UNDER your goal and I didn't see a single logged day in the last two weeks where you weren't at least 500 calories under your goal. If that is accurately logged its no wonder you are hungry. Snacking isn't your problem, not eating enough is. You are snacking because you are hungry because you should be eating more. I am assuming your goal was set for a reason why are you consistently undershooting it by that much?

A goal is a goal for a reason, eating less than your goal isn't additional success it is failing to meet your goal. I'm admittedly confused as to why you are surprised you are hungry. You are logging so you know you are under eating.

I'm going to tell you my experience: I used to be like you, till I found out that what caused me most hungry was the fact that "I couldn't eat anymore". So for a time I started to make me real food (meaning: no treats) if I felt like at night.

Sometimes I still was hungry once finished, and sit down and eat taking my time, like any other meal. But most of the times I started to not-to-feel-hungry / so-hungry when I was cooking, and had to save the plate for tomorrow.

Yeap, releasing the (psychological) tension of "prohibited" worked best for me.

I get the same way sometimes. What works for me is to just not buy those things that I know won't be able to control myself around. So I'll keep healthier snacks around like apples or nuts. That way I can snack without feeling like I ruined my calorie deficit. I'm still a fan of treating myself so every once in a while I go crazy with the cheez its. It runs in the family.

Is it putting you over your calorie goal? If not then snack away. If so then eat more satiating foods (calorie low, nutrition/fiber dense) earlier in the day.

Do you find that you can't sleep on an empty stomach? I have to have a snack before bed, otherwise I feel wired and can't get to sleep.
